It is good quality mid-class hotel in an Finnish brick house. Rooms are quite standard and comfortable, however bathroom equipment is bit outdated. Hotel located in the center of the city, 5 minutes walk to rail & bus stations and central square. There is a bar and restaurant at the hotel, but they're not the best in the area.
A very strict woman at the front desk who did not know how to smile. A room whic will impress squeamish person. Inexpressible odor in the bathroom. A furniture produced in the USSR. A small restaurant with ok breakfast.
Overall, I was very depressed by the hotel and tried to leave as early in the morning as possible.
That's true, that the prices are not that high. But to get a superior room in such a poor condition - it was a real shock.
* Lobby bar (good service, good drinks, good food)
* Reception (in Russian terms, the service was very good. This equals to almost-mediocre service in western terms)
* Beer tent (at least summer 2011 the hotel had a beer tent with a barbecue (and other foods catered from the main kitchen of the hotel)
CONS
* Dirty bathroom
(* Dirty room overall)
* Toilet didn't flush, made very loud noise for 5mins after every flushing too
* Passports needed to be left at the reception (which is common practice in some places, but nevertheless not nice)
* Breakfast - absolutely awful. If possible, save money by excluding breakfast and go somehwere (anywhere) else... Undrinkable coffee, food offering was mediocre (quantity) but very poor (quality).
As it was in Vyborg I didn't expect much so I wasn't totally dissappointed.
The first thing that bothered me was the lack of air conditioning in the whole hotel. It was only May and it was terribly hot in the lobby as well as in the rooms. It must be awful during the hot summer months. Luckily the rooms have opening windows, but apparently in the summer the mosquito problem is so bad that it is not recommended to sleep with open windows. The hotel provides some kind of mosquito spray and as I had read about the problem brought my own as well so I didn't suffer from any mosquitos.
Someone in our group reported water flowing in their room so they had to change rooms. My room was ok, dated but clean, but didn't really want to use the shower because the floor seemed to be a bit mouldy or really dirty. Also you could see some floral prints in the pillows & blankets even though they were covered with white linens, so it didn't really feel like a "hotel experience", more like a sleep over at a friend's house.
The staff didn't speak much english so the communication was a bit difficult.
Breakfast was good, not too much choice but enough to fill the stomache.
All in all an ok experience for a one night stay. Even though not luxurious, hotel Vyborg still is reported to be one of the best hotels in Vyborg. For a one night stay, would still return to the hotel as I've heard of much worse experiences of the hotels in this town.
room nice
bed not so nice
traffic noise from the main street
mosquitos were the problem in the morning when I look at the mirror - red marks all over my face........
electric system was funny!
service at the reception very nice
Bathroom in poor condition.
Breakfast simple - no fish or vegetables.
In the downstairs nightclub, watch out for thieves.
I will newer to this hotel again.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
