I stayed for five nights with a friend at the Assembly Pension while researching material for a book. Natalia's B&B provided a perfect base: it was a real home from home for us, with comfortable beds, a cosy room, hot shower and generous Russian breakfast to set us up for the day. Aside from its homely atmosphere, there are two things that make the Assembly particularly special. One is the central location: from the Hermitage to the Mariinsky Theatre to the Fabergé Museum, so many sights are within easy walking distance, and the metro is just a few minutes away if you need to head further afield. The other big reason to stay is Natalia herself: she is friendly, welcoming and a mine of useful information about her city and her country. She helped me with very specific requests, including an excellent and well-informed guide, and sorted out tickets for the Hermitage, ballet and opera (big hotels would add significant commissions). Natalia even drove us herself to various eighteenth century palaces outside the city, and helped advise us on public transport routes. While I understand some Russian, the language can be baffling for tourists, and the personal advice and information Natalia provides can make a dramatic difference to a holiday. She is also happy to talk about her country, giving a window on life that again makes the experience of visiting much richer. Having lived in Russia previously, it was very nostalgic for me to enjoy home-made blini and syrniki (little cheese cakes) with Natalia's home made jam for breakfast: for those new to the country, you won't get a similar experience in a hotel. If you're thinking of coming to St Petersburg, I thoroughly recommend the Assembly, both as a lovely place to stay, and for Natalia's invaluable advice and help.

This B&B is located right in the heart of St Petersburg within 15 - 25 minutes easy walking distance of the major tourist attractions such as The Hermitage, Winter Palace, St Isaac's Cathedral and the Russian Museum. Natalia is a warm, friendly and helpful host who speaks excellent English and takes the time to share her intimate knowledge of St Petersburg. She also cooks the most delicious traditional breakfasts including blini (pancakes) and all accompanied by home made jams plus fruit, cheese, meats and bread. The B&B is located on the second floor of a wonderful old 1900s building. You feel like you're living as a local staying here. Natalia's recommendations for local eating places were excellent and we enjoyed some delicious meals. Our room was clean and comfortable with a shared bathroom. There was some street noise during the day but it quietened down at night (and some noise is unavoidable in central St Petersburg anyway!). Natalia can arrange a driver if needed (Maxim is a lovely fellow who also speaks English) and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his morning with Maxim visiting the old war cemetery. We really enjoyed our 5 night stay here and chatting with Natalia over breakfast to learn more about Russia and St Petersburg. Natalia is a kind and thoughtful host who gives you your privacy but is always willing to help. Highly recommend staying here!

I stayed at the Assembly Pension with a group this July and it was perfect! We were all able to visit in the living room and still had a private bedroom. The breakfasts were fantastic and Natalia was wonderful! She was helpful with everything from helping with Visas to suggesting restaurants and tickets for anything you might want to do. Centrally located, nice and clean, plus, I have a new friend in St Petersburg!!

Excellent choice for St Petersburg. The hostess is exceptional in caring for her guests. She provides services you didn’t think you needed, like writing you a note in Russian to help when you need to interact with a non English speaking person. According to your interests, she will mention places to visit and how to get there. And it is located very close to all the main attractions. And there is the wonderful breakfast every morning to look forward to. We stayed a week and were sorry to leave.
