Great hotel located one minute walking from Hermitage. Clean room with good services. Nice and simple breakfast provided. Staff friendly and helpful for the different support we needed. Really recommended. I would go there again.
Very friendly staff and very helpful. I would definitely stay in at Sonata again and again. The hotel is located in the heart of St. Petersburg. Most of historical places are within walking distance. Will definitely be staying again.
Recommend this hotel, good helpful staff, great location. Just 2 minutes walk from Hermitage, close to underground station. Many good places to eat& drink close to it. Cozy room, very clean. As Hotel use 4 and 5 floor you will get the "roof view" and it is also was nice. Smiling personal, cleaning lady made her job very well. Old building, something special and elevator you should try ( special experience, really, I liked it) Good hotel for reasonable pry. Definitely will use in my future trips.
This low-standard hotel is located in front of the most important landmarks of the city. Very old and dirty elevator with only 1 passenger. The entrance of this hotel is to old looks very depressing. Hotel manager and her staff does not honor guest.
We travelled as a group of 9 people and we had 5 rooms in this incredible hotel. The location was just wonderful; a block away from the metro. It was in the hub of shopping and restaurants and less than 30 minute walk to the Hermitage. The breakfast buffet was incredible with fruit, vegetables, eggs, porridge, coffee, tea, tons of juice, pancakes, and jellies/jams. There was bottled water and coke available all day long and they offered a glass of wine at night when we sat in the lounge reviewing our day. As much as we appreciated and loved these amenities, the customer service was all the way over the top. A young man carried all of our baggage and we had to beg him to take our tip. Olga was amazing, absolutely amazing. She spoke excellent English and was there continuously. We just adored her and the incredible customer service of this hotel. They stored our luggage on first and last day, and we will DEFINITELY be returning to this hotel in the future. We were saddened to leave.…
We had booked a hole week due to medical treetment, paid extra for a better room since I was sick. Got a room with a small window and wanted to change but got no help and they didn't try to change. Very tired and unhelpful straff, young girls that don't know What service is. Have many treetments infront of me but will never Go back there.
Отличное соотношение цены и качества. Location is great, good value for its money. We had a discount no-view economy room for just 2000 rub. In comparison to other hotels of that kind this one was the best, we tried another one in Saint-Petersburg and one in Moscow. Thank you
perfect location on nevsky - its a reson we choose and didn't regrate. the room is clean and homely' breakfast is good and fresh' the stuff very helpfull and obliging the transfer from airport usefull /
The location of Sonata hotel is great. A few steps from the main atraction of St. Petersburg - The Hermitage - the hotel has an excelent cost x benefit ratio. The rooms are good, the breakfast is a typical russian meal and the staff are very pleasant. The only drawback is the building´s 200 years´s age, but... The subway station is a walking distance, too! Don´t leave the city without exploring the amazing subway stations, and the Admiralteyskaya is very close to the hotel. And if you like to explore the city by sightseeing, the hop-on and hop-off stops there, in front of the hotel!
We stayed 2 nights at the Sonata on Nevsky 5 while on a short trip to St Petersburg with a main objective of spending most of the time at The Hermitage. The hotel was chosen based on its proximity to the museum and indeed it is very close so that did not disappoint. Fortunately, a message was sent in advance of our arrival explaining how to find it because there is no sign out the front and the door looks like an apartment building entrance - which it actually is. The hotel is on the 4th and 5th floor of a building that also contains private apartments and another hotel. Reception is on the 4th floor and going to the 5th where our room was situated requires that you go outside of the locked 4th floor hotel door onto a bare, chipped, communal concrete stairway to get up or down. It is an odd arrangement but not a real problem. The elevator has been mentioned by other reviewers but still requires some comment. We found it hysterically funny to look at and to use. It is smaller than any other that I have ever seen and further compromised by a door that opens inwards in 2 sections. It is also very dilapidated looking. We not large but struggled to get one person and one suitcase inside. With 2 of us and no suitcases some contortions were required just to close the door which we did while trying not to laugh too loudly. Any ascent or descent was accompanied by creaks and groans and a bit crash as the selected floor was reached. Not for the faint hearted, the big bottomed or those with bulky luggage! Our room was fairly standard with 2 single beds. The foam mattresses were more uncomfortable than those at the other hotels that we used during this trip but I have had worse. There was a kettle (but no cups, tea bags etc), glasses and in room safe. The bathroom seemed newly renovated with shiny tiles, a good size shower box and ample hot water. Everything was clean and in reasonable repair. The wifi was stable and of good speed. Our room was at the back of the building and pretty quiet with the windows closed. It was also warm - perhaps a little too warm but there was an air conditioner as well as a radiator and we were able to use the former to cool it down a bit. Reception was open 24 hours a day and the staff that we interacted with spoke good English. Breakfast was available but we chose to eat outside. The hotel stored our bags on the last day and allowed us to change clothes before heading to the train station. How you feel about the Sonata will likely depend on your tolerance for that somewhat scary lift and the shared building but the location can't be beaten and the helpful, English-speaking staff are a real bonus. I consider staying there again.…
