I only stayed here for one night, and thank goodness. After staying in some great place in Peru, this place was just not up to par. Although it is supposedly the best place to stay in Peurto Maldona, I was lacking. The room was definitely...More
We stayed here overnight in early August (2014). First impression -- Very Good! Hotel transportation was waiting for us at the airport with a sign. Our room was small, simple, and clean. The grounds were clean and well kept. The air conditioning worked well. There...More
Very good service all-around, nice rooms, great breakfast (included). We stayed in one of the matrimonial bungalows, which was spacious and very comfortable, with air conditioning. We were with a large group of around 80 people for a campaign and the hotel attended us all...More

Hi, Read your post about the hotel Cabina Quinta. Could you base out of there and take a day trip/tour from there each day? If so, where would you arrange and pay for the tours you desire for each day? Thanks, Larry

I think the theoretical answer is yes, but I am not sure that is the practical answer. We had a destination in mind before we selected the Hotel Cabina Quinta. I really did not research the idea of doing day trips from Puerto Maldonado. Most of the advertising I looked at was directed at a location where one would spend a 2-4 nights. If your goal is to actually see wildlife I don't think I would advise this approach. Seeing wildlife is so "hit or miss" as it is. If you are taking day trips from Puerto Maldonado you almost certainly will be doing most of your traveling to and from sites during peak viewing hours - early morning and late evening. One can always get lucky and see things in the least expected locations and at the least expected hours. However, depending on things like the time and money you have available, as well as the distance you have traveled to get to the Puerto Maldonado area and the likelihood of a return visit , you will probably want to give yourself the best chance to "be lucky." I believe you would have your best chance of seeing wildlife by finding a tour or location that puts you in the same area for at least a couple of nights. We used Inka Natura. There are other companies available too. So my answer is yes you could probably use Hotel Cabana Quinta (Puerto Maldonado) as a home base. However, if you are like us you will have traveled a long way to get to the Puerto Maldonado area. I don't think using Puerto Maldonado as your base for day tours will give you the best opportunity to see what you probably traveled a long way to see.
