The island is beautiful. The accommodations are almost decent if you don't take into account the price. For a basic double cabin we've payed a bit over 100 euros/night with all 3 meals included. If not for the price it would have been a 4. A couple of things to consider: - If you're staying in the Tuba Sanika part of the island ask for a cabin that's on the left side of the courtyard facing the sea. - The closer your cabin is to the "meal hall" the more noise you'll experience. Depending on the other people on the island, it can be quite an "party place" rather than the "romantic getaway" - If you have the money to spend get an upgrade to a cabin that has wooden floors (especially if you don't like stepping on to crabs) - The mattress on the bed is older than your grandmother and the sheets are about the same age - There's no water at the sinks but you can use the shower to wash your hands. The bathrooms are ok (sort of what you'll find at any low end camping site) - Drinks are not included and rather pricey (given the remote location it's understandable). Food is the same all the time. The upside is that you're allowed to bring both. - Rules are "fuzzy". You're not allowed to smoke, but then ... the locals do. You're not allowed to film, but most tourist do. You're not allowed to make any noise after 22:00 but the party ended at about 02:00. You're not allowed to fly a drone, but for a 500$ fine you might. - The "daily" tour will be available only if there are enough people. It's nice. - You can only charge your electronics in the evening, and there aren't enough sockets for everyone. There's a TV running all day but using that socket if off limits for tourists. P.S: I don't have a problem with staying basic lodging. I've stayed in some really remote and basic places (tents included), backpacked through SA 4 times in 10 years.…
I like that place and that it is down to earth without Luxus. We spent 2 nights and had a great time. Perfect snorkeling spots nearby. Food is very good and cold beverages can be bought for a fair price.
We stayed at Franklin’s for 6 nights, in one of the private cabanas in the Tubasenika side of the island. What can I say, this place is a paradise and I loved every second of my stay...even if I couldn’t help but noticed a few little things that I didn’t like. When we arrived at the island we were greeted by a guy called Nali, who not only was a great host but also spoke English. As soon as he left, 2 days later, we started having problems communicating with the locals...who do nothing to make things easier. Some of them (especially the women) were borderline rude and just looked like they couldn’t stand the tourists at all. They didn’t speak English at all, so buying drinks and booking tours became a nightmare. Another thing I didn’t appreciate was the big amount of garbage I could find around the dock, on the beach and in the water around the island; they claim they recycle everything, yet I found more cans of beer in the sea than in the cans. It’s really not that complicated to pick up the trash taken to the beach by the current and it would certainly make a big difference. Also, I understand how hard it is to cook for many people every day, but it would be nice NOT to have the same cold eggs for breakfast every single morning...same with the chicken and/or fried fish fillet. Last but not least, beware of the cucarachas!…
Absolute paradise. Albeit I was lucky enough to be there when the weather was perfect. Clear skies, clear water, good food, beautiful sunset. Even lucky enough to be sitting on the beach early in the morning and catch of glimpse of some dolphins quite close to shore. Perfect place to relax in the sun or take part in a day tour. But if you dislike small Geckos or Bugs in your small cabin room then maybe it's not the place for you! But definitely would recommend.
We have been on Franklin's for 2 nights. Unfortunately the weather was not the best, but we still had a very good time! The island was very clean and the food delicious. We had fish or chicken with rice for lunch or diner. For Breakfast we had once an omelet with bread and once pancakes and a fried egg. We were always full and enjoyed the quietness on the island very much! There is a common area and a volleyball field. We were staying in a hut for 2 people and had unfortunately some problems with sandflies and Moskitos. But the kuna offered us to change the hut. The toilets and shower are rudimentary but clean and totally ok if you start to think where you are located! On our way back we even saw a dolphin! We would definitely come back again!
