We had a flight early in the morning and asked the recepcionist for the shuttle that is free of charge and offered by the hotel. The receptionist mentioned that the first one was at 8.15 am and if we wanted an earlier lift, we should have emailed the hotel. Clearly this information is not explained anywhere. I said that On booking.com and hotels.com explains that the first shuttle starts at 7. This lady kept saying that we had enough time if leaving at 8.15 ( flight ws at 9.30) and also said if we wanted to leave before 8.15 we had to get a taxi. ( The information on booking and hotels is misleading so I suggested changing that) Luckily I kept insisting and we got the shuttle to drive us at 7.30. Thankfully. Upon arrival at the airport, we were told there was overbooking and we had just got the last couple of seats. Glad we didn’t allow the receptionist to convince us to leave at 8.15 or we would have missed the flight. Also, we had a big problem and couldn’t do the check in online. We asked for a computer to log into our email quickly and We were not offered any help or solution by the staff. That was disappointing. Won’t be recommending

We stayed at the Gran Hotel Nacional while touring the provinces of Panama. The front desk people spoke primarily Spanish, of course, but there was always someone available with whom we could converse in English on duty in the hotel. Room was a very large, clean, bright place in the old European style of high ceilings and solid furnishings. Nice bathroom, tiled, with plenty of hot water (not always a Panamanian luxury!). Very good food at the hotel restaurant, with a friendly and attentive wait staff. Complimentary rum drink with dinner. Lovely large pool with water slide.

The Gran Nacional is a good hotel and the perfect place to stop if you are making the drive to Bocas Del Toro. It is in a great location within walking distance to many restaurants. It is by far the nicest hotel in David and is a dependable choice. The rooms are not beautiful but they are clean, have AC and the showers are hot. They have several decent restaurants in the hotel and a nice pool.

Hotel room smelled. We asked to move and they showed a room that was under construction and offered another. This room had faulty AC. We decided to leave and asked for refund. The owner advised we needed to cancel via bookong.com but we were unable to do so as we had already checked in. He would not refund...we left and booked elsewhere. The next day booking.com advised that the hotel had informed us of a no show. That was incorrect, we showed, we paid, we were not given a decent room. Owner would not refund and booking.com were unable or unwilling to help us get our money back. Avoid both hotel and booking.com at all costs.

This is an old hotel with the real taste of the city of David. I was there for a week while my husband was on buisness. The hotel is clean, quiet, and confortable. Breakfast was included and it is very panamenean. I liked it very much. They have a nice big pool where you can lap swim. The staff is incredible. I would have dinner at the pool area where the have grill. I had the langostinos a las brazas for two consecutive evenings! Delicious. I loved the hotel. Would never change it for a new lux hotel. It has a good location where you can go shop at a small galería. Ernesto at the grill area he was the waiter, he was special and the young man in charge of the grill was a great chef.
Go for the real taste of David!

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, everything is very clean, the breakfast is quite complete, and the pool is super good. Quite central in David and with access to restaurants in the area, plus it includes two varied and quality restaurants. It also has parking lots.

I have literally lived the past 4 years in nothing but hotels and rentals around the world. This hotel earned the worst rating ever!
1- I booked online on their website the first time. When I arrived later at night, I was told they were full and referred me to another hotel. 2- On my return trip, I stopped at their desk in the morning and made a credit card reservation. The gave a room facing the noisy street (Panama noise!) which I declined. They gave me another one with no windows! I took, figuring it would be of less noise -- wrong! 3- No iron, hair dryer, soap, shampoo or even a working phone! I stayed 4 nights (no choice) and they forgot the towels twice! 4- Free internet in the lounge (comes with mosquitoes) and if you want to pay for in-room internet it's $13/24 hour of a dial up connection speed, if it works! 5- Ever seen a hotel with holes in the door? I had to use gum to seal them! 6-Very expensive considering the surrounding hotels and quality.
STAY AWAY!

Probably yes BUT again I will say probably need to call them to set it up rather than book online and assume they will. Of course there will be a charge.
There are more places to choose from in the David area.
