The hotel lobby was modern, but dimly lit, as were the hallways. The room was old, dreary, and nondescript-- just a bed, desk, desk chair, and TV. Some rooms also have a side chair. The lighting in the room was very poor and the window in the room was blacked out. You couldn't see out the window or tell if it were night or day. The air conditioner was so loud that it sounded like a generator. I moved to another room, but the a/c was only slightly quieter. Besides the air conditioner, the room was quiet. I didn't hear any street noise or noisy guests inside the hotel
The hotel was cheap, so I wasn't expecting luxury. However, based on the TA reviews I expected something a little nicer. This is just a place to lay your head. I wouldn't stay there again.
The air conditioning was not functioning and they changed us to another room.
Hotel has food options next door in a nice local restaurant, nothing fancy.
We were not expecting a relaxing night in David, as it was to be a transit stop on our way through Central America. Very pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Castilla, exceptionally clean, modern, great amenities, quiet, qith a great restaurant. Make sure you get the Lemon tart, the best dessert Ive tasted in my 37 & a bit years on the planet! lovely welcoming service too, from the restaurant staff, an excellent introduction to Panama and its charming people.
Saw new "Skyfall" release in English at a movie house around the corner. Plenty of shops, market and stores in easy walking distance. Reception and staff could not have been kinder.
As mentioned many times before the Castilla has clean rooms,
although they are bit small if you are travelling with a companion.
For those who are somewhat physically challenged, you need to be
aware that there is no elevator. There are no first floor rooms that I could observe. But the front desk staff will muscle your bags to your room on the second or third floor.
There is a good buffet to the left of the Castilla as you exit.
For those that want to meet a bunch of resident americans &canadians
travel 200 feet to the right as you exit the Castilla. There you will see the Ibis Hotel. Go up the streetside staircase to the second floor.
You will find a bar owned by Peter, a canadian, who has the best happy hour and regular drink prices in town. The bar has a great view
to watch the locals in the city park across the street.
