Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rooms are clean, comfortable & a little bit old school. Very quiet if you have room facing one the inner courtyards. Near the Bus Station and not to far from the Airport good for a night when passing through. In house Restaurant is good.

this is kind of old-fashioned hotel that is not far from David's bus station. Maybe 5 minute walk. Around it are a number of small shops and eateries. The rood is fairly small, but it is adequate for a night's stay. For the price, it has done its job.

Our family was travelling overland from Costa Rica to Panama City. The cross-border Tracopa bus from CR terminates in David. We decided to stay in David for the night before catching an onward bus the next morning. We chose to stay at Hotel Alcala because it's fairly close to the bus station, affordable, and well rated. We went in without any expectations and were pleased with the size of the room, the comfort of the beds, the shower, etc. The furnishings were basic but we weren't looking for much. Our stay was short but nice. Everything was ok except that in the middle of the night the alarm on one of the cars in the hotel's parkade sounded for quite a long time and kept me up. The staff were friendly at check in and check out but otherwise we didn't really interact with anyone. The hotel offers free wifi, but I didn't really use it because I chose to use the data on my phone instead.

The price, atmosphere, and staff were incredibly nice, the rooms were clean and the color scheme was relaxing. But the air conditioner was old fashioned so it was extremely noisy and not cooling at all. Making it difficult to actually rest.

Brilliant location. We only needed this as a stop-gap night as we had to drop our hire car off in David and get the bus the next day to Bocas. I chose this hotel because it was super close to the bus station - only a few minutes walk. Considering it's downtown and the surrounding is fairly noisy, when you're inside the hotel it's very quiet. The staff greeting us on arrival was lovely and friendly. There was no breakfast included but there seems to be a large restaurant joined to the hotel (I couldn't quite tell if it belonged to it or not) and they serve food all day. We had dinner there and breakfast the following morning - both great, not expensive. The hotel was a little colder than it needed to be. My boyfriend turned the air-con down partway through the night and then it was all good. Big bedroom, comfortable beds and a great hot shower! The hotel isn't expensive so I'd recommend if you just need it as a stop-gap. If you want to stay longer in David I'd personally go for somewhere with a little more character (as I was with my boyfriend) but that's personal preference.

Like other reviewers have commented, this large hotel is clean, with sizable room/bathroom, hot water (and plenty of it!), good WiFi, in-room safe, A/C, elevator. The restaurant offers a good variety of menu items at reasonable prices, including room service. The best part is the location - 1/3 mile to the bus terminal. A taxi from the airport will cost you 4 bucks, but you have to barter for that price. :) My only critique is the young woman at the front desk should learn how to smile!

I've stayed there twice, both times I was visiting David for business. The location is very convenient. Be sure to ask for a room not facing the street, it can be a little noisy. The rooms are decent (ok mattress, weak pillows), nothing fancy, hot water, cable TV, WiFi and AC. The hotel has secure free parking and the staff is very friendly. There's a nice restaurant, the food isn't the best value in town, however it isn't bad. I'll be going back to David soon and most likely I'll stay there.

We've stayed at Hotel Alcala before, and we've always been happy with the service. The check-in is always easy, and the variety of rooms is great. We've stayed with parties from 4 - 6 people, and have had good rooms. The hotel is simple, and not a luxury place by any means. But, the beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful. So, if you're traveling on a budget, it's a great place to spend the night. Wi-fi is free and there is a "business center" with a public computer and a printer. No pool, weight room or anything fancy. I gave this hotel a "3" because it's NOT a luxury hotel. There are other options in David for that, but, we'll stay here again all the same.

Room: Noisy with thin walls and right on the street/Side Walk. Parking: Under Ground/Covered - Dark, small, and not enough. TV: Flat screen .. OK .. Channels good .. Bed: Fair at best .. Pillows ( Not Good ) Bathroom Good: Hot Water & Fast Value: Fair ... They will probably try to raise your room rate ..
