With recently updated rooms, Mar & Oro features a great range of rooms types for you to pick from. Furthermore, the property is now run by a new administration which promises to deliver a great customer service to ensure you and those who accompany you have an excellent experience. With our staff from Cacique Beach Bar standing by to facilitate any beverage or meal we ensure you will have an unforgettable experience that will last a life-time.

I was there on a day pass to use their beach, eat their lunch. I loved the setting and the swim in the water, there were some jellyfish that stung me but it was nothing bad, it was high tide, and I went back swimming. The woman who welcomed me was rude, abrupt, and made me feel unwelcome. The other members of staff should also learn about customer service. Perhaps smile a little? So what is the point of going there?

The restaurant offers the most beautiful views on the island! You will want to take your time here enjoying the ocean breeze overlooking a pristine beach. Best mojitos I’ve ever had! The food was wonderful but quite pricey. Gorgeous decor - truly luxurious.

sleeping to the sound of the waves, never thought Panama had such a Paradise. Good service and the food is great. These is the only hotel in the Island with direct access to the beach. Hotel guests feel pampered by very attentive staff.

Our stay at Mar y Oro was nothing short of amazing and certainly exceeded our expectations. From the time we landed from the ferry and were met by the staff to take us to the hotel, to the arrival and greeting, the breathtaking view of the beach and ocean in front, to our room. All of the staff go out of their way to help you and advise on anything you need help with. We enjoyed the fresh fruit and juice each morning for breakfast, as well as choice of eggs or pancakes. Also the mouthwatering fish burgers at the beach-side cafe and the selection in the restaurant at night. We booked the ocean front suite which had its own terrace and view of the beach, which I would highly recommend for a couple. The bed was super comfortable, plenty of hot water and everything you need for this type of holidays. The beach has plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for shade if you want, or you can walk up the beach and find a quiet spot under one of the trees further up. There are a number of other restaurants to eat at on the island and they come to the hotel and pick you up and drop you back after for no charge. We went to Gerard’s one night for dinner and to Perla Real another night, both had different menus and we loved the food. Another day we hired a golf buggy and drove around the island for a few hours and stopped at Pimiento y Sal for lunch, which we also enjoyed. There is also plenty of history and intrigue about the island that the staff will be happy to tell you about. Most of the staff have great English which was also a help to us.I can see that there are a lot of poor reviews and some of the points are true with the buggys coming and going to the boats, but it did not worry us at all. Yes there was one day that we got stung with jelly fish in the water that we did not see, but the staff were quick to help with vinegar and cold water to ease the sting. I always travel with cream for this just in case. Yes the hotel is slowly being updated with the new owners, but again we did not have any issues and were just happy with the clean beach, clear water for swimming and relaxing atmosphere. Obviously some expect more, but for us it was perfect and we cannot wait to return.

For $275 a night, there are plenty of much better places Location Mar y Oro is one of the few hotels on Contadora with direct access to the beach. BUT this beach is a real highway (see picture). All day 4WD vehicles drive by, at no more than 3 yards from the hotel guests' deckchairs, to reach the houses located along the beach or get close to the many boats anchored in the bay (there is no port in Contadora, all boats are here). All these cars going back and forth all day long and rejecting their exhausts on the hotel's guests are a real annoyance. Hotel The place is obviously old and lacks general maintenance despite some minor renovations made. Our "suite" had only the name. It was in fact a cramped and spartan room, so small that we had to step over our suitcases to cross it. No closet: only in a corner five hangers on a bar and two broken tiny shelves. No bedside lamps because... there were not even nightstands... The small balcony was useless since it didn’t even have a chair to sit on. The taps in the bathroom were in a sad state, the electrical outlets downright dangerous. On the other hand the bed was large and the whole clean. Wifi connection was OK considering the location on a small island. Food Breakfast was quite good (to my taste) but the choice was very limited which made it very repetitive and weary. And not a single change from the menu was accepted... The restaurant was very average in all respects, except prices, very high. No local dishes, no fresh food. You can eat much better in town for half the price. Services Poor, poor, poor! All staff members, except one or two, had an “I don’t care” attitude. The hotel beach (which was the primary reason why we chose this place) was a particular disappointment, basic and messy. Bare plastic deckchairs that often could use a good cleaning, dirty bottles and glasses left everywhere, and above all low interest for customers... Those coming on a day trip even got evident signs of disdain. And the car exhausts already mentionned. In short: avoid this hotel. For $275 a night there are much better places.
