The hotel is in a location nearby to the town but yet very close. It is a quiet and peaceful place, beautiful gardens with hammocks and tables to relax. The service was very good and helpful all the time. The rooms were very clean and soundproof and the hot water was very efficient.

Comfortable room in a beautiful garden setting. Friendly service. Got the laundry done! Clean kitchen/dining area to eat in. (You can cook your own food for a minimal charge) A nice retreat in Alto Boquete, well cared for. You would prefer to have a car.

When we came to the place the door was locked. We saw a young guy through a window in the door. He saw us too but did not open the door. We knocked a few times and waited. Finally somebody from the stuff opened the door. There were a few people/staff but nobody said hello. We asked the receptionist (who later claimed to be an owner, she was Italian and both her English and Spanish were poor) if she could show us the room. The room itself was spacious but very dark and right by the noisy reception. We asked her if she had another option. She showed us another room but did not give us any time to decide which room we wanted to stay in and started being very unpleasant saying she had so many thing to do and she was very busy. But there were no other guest by the reception. We felt very uncomfortable in such hostile environment since the very beginning and decided to leave. We asked her if she could give us our money back. She did not want to and was rude to us. We asked her if we could talk to a manager or the owner. She got angry and said loudly - I am the owner and that's me who makes the rules! ( Not exactly, as her Spanish and English were really basic). We calmly insisted on getting our money back. She even said we had no proof we had paid! So that we can leave! We paid her unfortunately before checking the room. The print machine was broken and she said she would give us the receipt later. She saw we would not leave without our money. She gave us the half. We were still waiting for the second half of the money. She said she would call the police. Then she called to somebody. We thought that it was the other owner of the place but she called booking. com. We explained the lady on booking.com what had happened and why we wanted to leave. She promised to send us the other half of the payment and she did in a few days. The experience in the hostel was very unpleasant and we would not recommend staying there.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a private room #2 (I believe on their website it’s advertised as a deluxe double room) with private bathroom. The room itself was basic but comfortable and clean, with towels provided. In case you’re wondering, there was a small TV in the room, wifi worked well, there was no hairdryer and no safety deposit box in the room. It was a very quiet time when we were there - literally only 2-3 other parties in the hostel, so the place was quiet and we could check in super early, around 7-8 AM without any problems (after arriving on the bus from David that early). The DIY breakfast was simple (pancake mix, bread, coffee/tea, ham, cheese and jam, fresh fruit every morning, and eggs) but sufficient and it was great to have it included/ available. Simple breakfast in town could cost you up to $5-10 a head. They have beautiful gardens and the kitchen is an open space - so you feel you’re eating your breakfast in the garden - wonderful! There’s tables/ chairs and hammocks in the garden as well and it was great to spend some time there just enjoying the birdwatching (there were even hummingbirds visiting). The staff were great, friendly, very very helpful and spoke good English. They will help you with tours, shuttles, taxis etc. The location in quiet Volcancito is a bit outside of town so you either have to pay for a taxi ($3 during the day or $4-5 in the evenings or when it rains etc and taxi drivers try take advantage) or take a local cheeba bus to get to Boquete town and back. We usually took the bus to town and a taxi back in the evening. Buses come once every hour, usually on the hour or a quarter past (ish) from a bus stop located 5 minute walk from the hostel. I believe it was $1 per person to get into town, and a 10-minute ride. We only had one instance when we were waiting 45 minutes for the bus - perhaps the afternoon schedule is different; no problems with long waiting in the mornings, though. The only thing I could see for improvement was fixed/ new window nets in the room; we had some small holes in netting and every evening had cute loud beatles visiting through them. Overall, we were very happy with choosing Boquete Lodge for our stay in the area and would gladly recommend it to others.

Stayed in dorm bed, were not many guests when I was there so felt quite isolated, particularly given the remote location - about 30 mins walk into town and 45 mins back (uphill). Near to Fresas Mary which is a must. Breakfast is included but DIY, you cook the eggs and pancakes yourself. Place is clean, v clean for a hostel. Noise travels a lot though, from the front desk guy having a conversation at 11:30pm (I had to go and tell him to be quiet) to other noises from next door rooms.... not sure if people are aware how much the noise travels!!! Beautiful gardens and some nice walks to do near the hostel.

This is definitely one of the best hostels that I have ever stayed at. It is beautifully furnished and super clean and tidy. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is simple but good.
Even though the hostel isnt located in the centre of Boquete, it is very easy and cheap to go downtown by taxi.
We really enjoyed our time here and even stayed two nights longer than originally planned. We definitely recommend Machico!!

This is a great location, 5 minutes car or taxi ride ($3.) into town, quiet at night, and beautiful grounds around it. The owners are lovely people (who speak Italian, English and Spanish) helping you organize day trips and offering good advice on local restaurants. Breakfast is included with a communal full kitchen and fridge for those who want to cook (which we did). It is cool and sometimes windy up here in the hills, but perfect sleeping temperature. Clean rooms, great staff, we would highly recommend staying here! Al and Judy Kay.
