This is our 3rd trip to Boquete, but the first to Bambuda Castle. We stayed in hobbit houses and had a great time. They were clean roomy enough for two. I wish we had known that they were under construction and that the view from our unit would be blocked, however. Staff was very, very friendly and helpful. The whole place could use pressure washing outside, and the hostel kitchen and pool area is starting to show its age. Overall, we would return - the construction should be over by then, and in the meantime, the view from the porch/dining upstairs is fantastic.

Hello, thank you very much for sharing your experience at the castle during you past visit to Boquete. Your feedback it is very important to us, in fact we are going through a complete renovation of the castle where we will be addressing many of your points above and once finished we will have unique location. We stayed 5 nights at Bambuda this past January. We opted to stay in a hobbit hole with our own bathroom in lieu of the dorm option and were happy we did so although we spent most of our time hanging out in the spacious lounge or on the deck overlooking the beautiful view of the valley and Volcan Baru. We had a rental car which made this spot less out of the way than it would have been otherwise.
Staff are super helpful. We valued the reliably hot shower in our little hobbit hole, the ability to do laundry, the potable water and the bottomless coffee. We ate three communal dinners in the lounge with other guests and enjoyed meeting other travellers. By comparison with meals we ate elsewhere, the prices here seem a little high but do allow you to avoid the hassle of a long walk or taxi ride into town.

We stayed for two nights in a private room with private bathroom and our stay was wonderful! The staff were all very accessable and friendly, the food in the restaurant was surprising big servings and delicious and the grounds of the hotel are stunning. The jacuzzi was a real bonus. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Well done!

We arrived at the hotel very tired and wanted to nap in our room. There was construction right next to us and it went on for a couple of hours. (Very loud hammering) we decided to skip the nap because and head to the jacuzzi. After we attempted to shower but it was broken. It was fixed but it was an inconvenience to wait in our wet clothes while it was being repaired and it also had me question if they actually cleaned the shower. Our hobbit hut was not in a gated area and we had children posing for pictures outside and yelling by our windows. It was unique but not worth the price. Especially if you want privacy. The whatsapp pricing we were initially quoted was almost double the price we actually ended up paying. Another quest said he was I. The middle of booking and left his wallet in his car and when he return the price magically increased as well. Just a little shady. The front desk and restaurant staff are extremely nice. I was told our room is going to be closed for renovation so they will be improved but that didn’t really help me during my stay.

WOW! This place is amazing. We paid $16 each per night to stay in the dorms and had a wonderful experience living in luxury for a few days. The castle really is as amazing as it looks. Everything is immaculately clean and facilities are well maintained. The guest kitchen was great, as well as the hostel restaurant. All of the staff were so kind and helpful, plus most of them spoke great english. The beds are very comfortable.Would love to spend even more time!

As soon as were allowed to travel after 7 months COVID lockdown in Panama, we couldn’t wait to visit Boquete. My boyfriend found Bambuda Castle on the Internet and told me that “It has tiny Hobbit rooms for rent”. As we were not sure, we booked for a night but ended up staying for five nights. Not only Ely (Manager?) and Carlos (Bartender?) were so kind and helpful but also our room (superior bungalow) was spotlessly clean. I saw that the cleaning guy wears a head-lamp when he cleans the rooms. We loved the view of the Baru Volcano from the hotel. The only problem for us, was that the Bambuda restaurant was still closed because the COVID Lockdown had just lifted. We made simple meals in the common kitchen though. We didn’t have a chance to use the swimming pool and the Jacuzzi. They looked very nice and clean. We found new friends while staying in Bambuda. We plan to visit again early next year for Volcan Baru hiking, which we were not able to do this time. I highly recommend Bambuda Castle.

This is really an amazing place to stay. It is a combination of a nice hotel and a hostel, with wonderful food and excellent views. The staff is multi-lingual (as are most of the guests) and helpful. Meals are family style with some entree choices that you select a bit in advance. Both meals I ate here were wonderful. Downstairs there is a shared kitchen that was practical for lighter meals, but sometimes a bit crowded. The grounds are well kept and the views are excellent. I stayed in one of the "tower rooms" which were remarkable for their uniqueness--you just need to be willing to deal with a spiral staircase. It's not every day that you cross a moat on the way to your room!

I have had the worst night in a hostel ever here. We had a dorm room with 6 beds for 2 nights. On the first night around 10.30 it seemed that we had the room to ourselves because no one else checked in. Around 11 at night, the door was thrown open and 2 loud local guys came in with a girl. They were all in a bathingsuits an didn’t have anything else with them. The guys were clearly drunk and on drugs ( they even asked us if it was ok if they smoked weed in the room) and the girl was almost passed out drunk. They put her in one of the beds but a few minutes later she fell out naked. After they put her back they left for a few minutes. A guy came back and ended up having sex with her while we were in the room. This kept on going for a few hours while other people kept coming in. The girl eventually left and 4 guys kept coming in and out of the room until 5 am. The next morning we went to the reception and they told us that those guys booked the beds last minute because they were having a party in the pool area and that the security guy had the night off. After we told the whole story, they only thing we got in return was sorry and that she’ll report it to her boss. The whole situation was bizarre and the way it was handled afterwards awful. I would not recommend staying here.

We stayed in one of the Hobbit Houses for three nights and had a great experience.
The rooms were so cute and the bathroom was amazing.
The only thing we really missed was a fridge.

The grounds are beautiful and the facilities are great. Food and drinks in the restaurant were decent and the laundry service was very quick and efficient.

All the staff we met were friendly and very helpful.

We had a car so getting into town and back was not an issue. It would be harder without one - you need to pay taxis or walk for about 45mins-1hours (all uphill on way to castle)

I would 100% stay here again.

I have a nut and peanut allergy and triple checked with the desk when I ordered my lunch from the hostel, they reassured me there was no nuts in the dish and in fact said they don't have any nuts in the kitchen whatsoever. I ended up having a very severe reaction requiring me to go to the hospital. I had 3 friends with me who tasted the dish and said for sure it tasted like peanuts. When I discussed this with the front staff afterwards, they completely denied that there was nuts in the dish, they did say there is peanuts in the dinner dish (therefore when I was told there is no nuts in the kitchen, that was a lie). They didn't apologize for the situation or try to make it right in any way. The manager was completely rude and unhelpful. This is not a safe place for people to stay if they have allergies as it is not taken seriously and the customer service is extremely poor.

Hello GenX, yes we have on-site laundry services. We have a very. wide variety of guests. It is not a place only for college students, we have a wide appeal and we foster a very social atmosphere so you never know who you will meet. We receive great feedback and reviews from every type of guest. Let us know if you have any other questions.
