Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Hotel Valle del Rio in Boquete in January and we loved the hotel. The hotel is older and is dated and will need some upgrading soon but having said that our room was clean, the grounds of the hotel has a river running through it which made for afternoon quiet time a very pleasant thing to do after our days activities.
We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and the food was good.
The maid service was good and the ladies at the front desk were very helpful when we had questions.
For the value this is a great hotel. It is situated a few blocks from the main street in Boquete so walking a bit will be required.

Beautiful hotel that is about a 5-10 minute walk from downtown Boquete. Breakfast was great and there is a pretty little creek and gardens in the hotel back yard. The only reason I gave this hotel four stars is that the wifi was poor and often my husband and I weren't able to connect in the evening.

We apréciate you comments and thank you for taking the time, we understand how frustrating is to be out of WiFi we must tell you that the service provider in Boquete has a very deficient distribution of the internet and this issue is beyond our control Hope to see you again soon

Great location by a stream with lovely birdsongs all day long, very relaxing. Large room with quality furniture and extra-large bed. Nice molas on walls throughout. Garden by the river is great for lounging. Close to city but not too close, so easy to reach by foot but avoiding noise and traffic, I'd say no more than 10' walking. Be careful at night, there are no sidewalks. Good breakfast on terrace but not serving proper tea ? no teabags other than herbal teas ? I know the restaurant is separate (cannot charge to room) but still. Half of the world population drinks tea and even if Boquete is a coffee place, this is no reason not to have english breakfast teabags available. I'll bring my own next time. To put in the 3$ cup of hot water.
So 4 star only because of this and spotty Internet. But recommended all the same. Very peaceful and comfortable.

We stayed 3 days in this hotel, the garden along the river is breathtaking. Lots of birds, and splendid floral arrangements. The good-sized room is very well equipped, with a view of the garden and the river. Peaceful area, 10 minutes walk from the center. The only two negative points, the anemic wi-fi, and the staff at the reception, no smile, they look down when we pass. Excellent value for money.

+1
Staff at the front desk are extremely nice and helpful.
Housekeeping did what they could with what they had to work with.
The hotel ran out of towels and toilet paper.
Great view of the river.
Very old and run down.
It's more like a roadside motel or student dorm.
Driveway is a death trap. I've never seen an almost 90-degree angle driveway before.
Restaurant on site has nothing to do with the hotel. Can't charge to the room either.

We recently booked this hotel over the phone. I gave my credit card information. On arrival I gave them my credit card which they ran though as usual. We had to walk up two flights of stairs as the elevator wan't working (with no help from the guy who was supposed to be showing us to our room (he took the stairs two at at time while we struggled with our baggage). We had expected a king size bed, our room had two queen's instead. We were not impressed with the service or the room and decided to leave.
We explained our position to the girl at the front desk and after consulted with the manager by phone she told us we would have to pay the cancellation fee. I asked her to get the manager back on the phone but she said he couldn't be reached! I told her we would not pay as it it the hotels fault that they do not live up to the standard we expected. I asked for my credit card slip back and also the booking confirmation that had my credit card number in it. She gave them back and I tore them up in front of her. Today I saw my visa statement and see I was charged anyway!!! Unethical and definately not customer oriented.

We are very sorry you feel this way but you read and accepted our cancelation policies and you where in any hotel in world. Your received the room that you reserved and our hotel never announced to have and elevator in the web site you reserved and the day of your arrival it was being installed since e have just recently got one. We are a 26 room hotel and a cancelation or no show is very harmfull to our business and if you where on our shoes you will understand. I am very sorry we did not meet your expectation but you gave no real reason as for wanting to leave. The Room was impeccable you just had another reason.

Service. It's what separates the bad from the good and the good from the great.
We arrived at the hotel after a long morning of travel and were not greeted by anyone. No one opened the door for us. No one helped us with our bags. Strike one. We arrived early and were informed that we would have to pay $28 for early check in, even though our room (and many others) sat unoccupied. In all my years of traveling I have NEVER paid for early check in. Late checkout, yes. But the concept of being charged extra for a room that is sitting empty is discourteous and unprofessional. Strike two. We chose a room with "mountain view" and were shown to a room whose primary view was a neighbor's backyard. Once unpacked I attempted to connect to the included wifi (which had decent signal in the lobby) and found no signal in the room. As a business person, good wifi is essential and no wifi is unacceptable. I inquired with the front desk, and essentially was told that there was nothing they could do. So I requested a different room, one with better signal. I was informed that we could not move rooms but the receptionist said she could talk to the manager who was away and would be back in a hour. The hotel had many empty rooms. Again, poor customer service. So in essence I had paid $130 for the night, PLUS an egregious early check in fee, for a room with no view and no internet. UNACCEPTABLE. Strikes 3, 4, and 5. No way to welcome new guests. After some pointed words with the receptionist, we did get moved to another room with a better view. But guess what? One bar of NON FUNCTIONING internet. I am writing this review on a high cost mobile data connection. Other things that jumped out: ancient tube TV, shabby roof with broken tiles and bottle caps and other trash viewable from the balcony. My only wish is that I had not prepaid. There are many other cheaper and better lodging options in Boquete. I suggest you use them and STAY AWAY from this hotel.

I booked 2 days at this hotel even though the reviews were very mixed. I'll start with the pros as there were a few things about this hotel we liked. The location is beautiful with a mountain stream tumbling along the back of the property. Also, the hotel is within walking distance of downtown Boquete so you can walk downtown, have a nice supper with a glass of wine (the new Peru restaurant has great food and service), and walk back. Our room had a king bed and a nicely sized bathroom and shower. Unfortunately, this hotel has a lot of cons and as a result is very overpriced compared to other places we stayed at in Panama. The hotel needs repair throughout, the floor in our room was cracked and the boards wobbly and shrunken. Our room had a nice deck overlooking the stream but about a quarter of our deck was taken up by a ventilation shaft from the kitchen below. So from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. all we could hear in our room was the roar of the vent and smell whatever they were cooking in the kitchen below. The hotel was very noisy with loud people and music long into the evening and early morning so if you are looking for a quiet place to stay this isn't the right hotel. Breakfast was included with our stay - it was a help yourself type of breakfast where the coffee is in a big urn and the food laid out buffet style. All of the food with the exception of some fruit was very unappealing and the coffee was not drinkable. We settled for toast each morning although we had to ask for a toaster (if you are a coffee lover, there are lots of great coffee places in town and at various road stop coffee planations). After our 2 days were over we moved to another hotel in Boquete to finish our visit. I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

great rooms, great views of the river, good break fast, nice workers
but..............nasty management
We got soaked in the rain so we used the clothes dryer only once
hotel charged me $62 for using the dryer, and refused to under stand my point that we did not use full service laundry
also it is impossible to use the phone as they keep your phone blocked
also not allowed to send or receive cell phone calls
plus they do not deliver messages to your room
we enjoyed the hotel but will not use it again

Response from HotelValledelRio, Owner at Hotel Valle del Rio
Responded 18 Jan 2011
1. It is very the l y sad that this customer will undermine our strength for their mistake. They had a price list of laundry services beforehand and they send 22 pieces of clothing between Jackets, shirts, pants etc.. and got them back neatly folded. the original price was $87.00 according the list and was discounted after their complaint. Do they want this service for free? 2. Hotel telephones are blocked for security reasons an upon request by the customer management will unlock it. In fact this customer was asked if it wanted this done and decline. 3. It is outrages to suggest that we will have the technology to block Cellphone calls. My staff gave this customer all the attention we are accustom to provide.

The hotel is clean but sparse on facilities. After speaking with locals I found out that the owner is in the tech industry so knows how to manipulate the ratings. Now it makes sense because this hotel is not a 4+. I would give it a solid 3.
Room size is good and bed/linens etc are nice. Toiletries were sparse and did not have a nice scent. No complimentary bottles of water - we paid twice as much here per night than the Waldorf Astoria in Panama City, and yet there we were given at least 4 free bottles of water each day.
They advertise free breakfast but don’t state if it is hot or continental - this is coffee (they have tea bags but never any hot water to make tea), a small fruit plate (2 small slices each of papaya, pineapple and watermelon), egg and toast. Cereal is the local equivalent of fruit loops and cornflakes. It was definitely not worth the extra that they charge compared to places that don’t include it. If you have a chance to stay here or somewhere else in Boquete without breakfast, take it as there are places to eat with great breakfast.
Facilities - they have a “casino” if you can call it that. Say no more. Didn’t try the restaurant because was unimpressed by breakfast.
No swimming pool - but there is a stream at the back of the property - the only problem is that the sewer smell overtakes the beauty of the stream so you can’t enjoy it. And you are not permitted to go into the stream.
There is a trampoline for kids and small slide for toddlers. There is a foosball table and a pool table.
Parking - even if it’s not included (it was included in my package) there is plenty of street parking so don’t worry.
It’s a 10 min light stroll to the Main Street in town for dining.
