Stayed for two nights with husband and son and fiancée. Butler checked us in and we were given fruit punch and cold face cloths to cool us down. As soon as you walk in through the doors you feel like you are stepping back in time. The suites in the old wing are huge and ours on the ground floor...

Luxury and Charming hotel. Excellent service, breakfast, food and nice touches in the room for our wedding anniversary. Daily happy hour is the best offer than any other hotels. Love this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

Pleasantly surprised by the E&O, it definitely exceeded my expectations! I love colonial style and the E&O did not disappoint. The foyer and common areas are beautifully maintained. We had a room in the old wing, very spacious and classic colonial style. We also enjoyed the bar which to my husband's delight showed the rugby. The location is excellent, right...

Visited this hotel for a celebratory meal in their top restaurant. The lobby and terrace were overwhelmed by a very noisy large Chinese wedding party. We would have liked to sit out on the terrace and have an aperitif, but there was no service there. When we eventually found the restaurant, there were very few diners, and the atmosphere was...

We stayed at Eastern and Oriental for 5 nights in January 2016. The hotel building and rooms are majestic and welcomes you with the colonial flair. Convenient location with a lot of dining options nearby (walking distance). We stayed in the new wing and would recommend the rooms with sea facing balcony. The afternoon tea and complimentary drinks in the...

Walking around the hotel it is clear how magnificent this hotel was once. We deliberately chose the Heritage Wing on rode to indulge in the full experience and despite the rooms being somewhat tired and furniture distressed - the rooms where clean, extremely large and quite comfortable. The minibar was complimentary but found ourselves having to remind the staff to...

You may pay a little extra to stay here but you get so much for your money. On arrival we were treated so well and when we saw the list of extras we were to get we were amazed. We had a beautiful room looking over the sea. The soft drinks in the fridge were all free. Breakfast was free...

I am from Penang and E&O Hotel has a special place in my heart. My recent visit made me feel embarrassed as a local and for the E&O group. The building still has its usual charm but the staff show no pride or a sense of respect to this beautiful place. Upon arriving at the front door, the doorman only...

which is still the best part of the E&O for us. The suite is very comfortable. Almost double the size of the rooms at Victory Annex the New Wing of the Eastern & Oriental Hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast will be served at the Sarkies (New Wing) and even in very hot weather it is possible...

We checked in here last Saturday (26/3) after having spent two lovely nights at the E&Os sister property The Lone Pine @ Batu Ferringi. We were staying in the Victory Annexe (i.e. the New Wing) and were transported by a complimentary shuttle service from The Lone Pine. As a former resident of Penang (in the late 80s/early 90s) it was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient. ... more   less
