A very nice heritage building. The room and bathrooms are clean. Breakfast is simple – toast, jam, fruit, coffee or tea - but OK. Keep in mind that this is a party area. There was music until late and the first night some-one was banging on the door in the middle of the night to get in. So I didn't...

stayed in the 4 beds female dorm. spacious enough for 4 people! lockers were inside the room, however you need to bring your own lock. located at Love Lane, away from the bustling main street. really enjoyed chilling in the courtyard or outside the hostel. staff were friendly and extremely helpful. shared bathrooms were clean! highly recommended :)

This guesthouse exceeded all my expectations: great location, helpful staff, really clean premises. Breakfast is included and so is a towel. Rooms have AC and are not cramped. They also have free lockers. Great value. The old building gives this place a unique atmosphere. So far, my favourite!

Beds, bathrooms, WCs are clean. Near to main Chulia Street yet far enough to be away from the busy main street. Walking distance to attractions like Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. 2 mins away from Chulia street, where good food can be found along the street. Slight downside is reception service is minimal, just touching the mark not to be rated...

Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2012 in the 12 Bed Dorm on the ground floor. The room was clean and surprisingly quiet. The staff were nice and even gave me the wifi password for the guesthouse next door when there wifi was broken. The TV area is good for socialising. The breakfast is nice and I had loads...

I actually think being stuck in the eighties is a really good thing for a hostel. The Old Penang Guesthouse reminded me so much of travelling in SE Asia in the eighties it made me feel (relatively) young again. It also gave our children a bit of an idea what travelling was like before internet homogenisation. The rooms were clean,...
