The check -in was regular and un eventful, but not very informed as to what we were getting for a room.
We made our booking on booking.com however th room 208 that we walked into after check- in was nothing like the visual we saw online when we booked the room.
The image online was a bright carpeted room with a large window, a queen sized bed with white clean linen.
Room 208 was dark, had no windows, the phone did not work and there was a big patch of mold on the bathroom ceiling.
We had to go back down to the front desk as the phone was not working so could not call down.
Once at the front desk, I explained that the room we booked had a window, and we need to have a window. There was no apology for trying to put us in a room with no windows.
The front desk lady explained that the only other room still available with a window has 2 beds not the one bed we booked. We did not have a choice, so we accepted the room with 2 beds. It was pass check in time, so there was not much rooms to offer. We were happy that we were able to get a new room available. Room 103, was better there was a window, but no carpet, room was one of 2 connection rooms, bathroom was clear of mold on the ceiling and good that the phone works and there was a bidet in the toilet and a rain shower too.
We watched some CNA news in the afternoon but once we returned to the room at 10pm, there was no sound on the cna channel. We called down and were told it's the channel issue, I explained that there must be another channel in English not just CNA. We were told engineering has gone back for the day and will be back in the morning.
I insisted and the lady informed that someone will come after 11pm to help, I said okay.
The gentleman that came after 11pm, was helpful, he tuned channel 5, so that we could watch it and explained that cna is not working as its the channel issue.
This was the best service provided to us on this visit.

The room was spacious and located close to KSL Mall. The hotel is within the Shop House lot with lots of Speciality Clinics around the same row.

We were planning a trip to Johor Bahru, and a friend mentioned Hallmark Regency Hotel. We trusted her opinion and booked the hotel online for quite reasonable price. However, we found some bad reviews from other travelers regarding the hotel right after we have completed our booking. Some said the staff aren't friendly, some said they didn't get the room they booked for, some said the breakfast was tasteless. I tried to ignore those reviews, but after sending them an email asking about airport transfer (because it's mentioned on the website that they provide airport transfer) and didn't get any reply for over a week, I started to worry. I sent them another email to arrange the airport transfer, and received an email which was written in broken English, stating that they would arrange the transport and call me to confirm our flight schedule two days before our check in date. I didn't find their reply reassuring, so my friends and I tried to arrange another transport from the airport to the hotel and sent them another email, cancelling our airport transfer and notifying that we would check in late due to our flight schedule. Their reply was quick this time.
We booked Air Asia flight to Senai Airport in Johor Bahru. Apparently Air Asia provides free shuttle bus from Senai to JB Sentral, so we booked it as well. At JB Sentral, we took a cab (tips: if you need to ride a taxi, find the taxi booth for prepaid taxis. It's illegal for taxis in Malaysia to not use the meter, but so far none of the taxis we rode in Malaysia ever use meters. We always have to bargain!). We paid MYR 10.50 for the taxi.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. This is not mentioned on the website, but the hotel requires the guests to give MYR 20 - 50 deposit (depends on the type of room). We were given our room keys, with the wifi password attached to it. Note that although the password on your key is "WF-1234567", you should only input the numbers if you wish to connect to their wifi and ignore the "WF-" as apparently it's only an abbreviation of WiFi :-) The elevators were very tiny and filled with pictures of Legoland, Hello Kitty Land and Universal Studios, so it might be rather uncomfortable for those suffering claustrophobia.
Our rooms were quite spacious (we booked twin deluxe). They smelled like new furniture, but it was okay. Hair dryer, check. Two extra pillows, check. Safe deposit box, check. Water heater and coffee cups, check. Small fridge, check. There were two small mineral water bottles in the fridge, but those weren't free. The hotel doesn't provide free bottled water for the guests, but there's a free water dispenser near the elevator on each floor. The bathroom was clean and the hot water worked well. The hotel only provides large towels, they will charge extra for face towels.
The hotel is located near several local food courts (there's one Chinese food court just right behind the hotel. Just turn right after you exit the hotel and walk down the short alley dividing Hallmark Regency and the much bigger Grand Paragon Hotel) and Plaza Pelangi, so no need to worry about food. The hotel has a strange policy of making their guests go to the front desk every morning to collect breakfast coupons instead of giving breakfast coupons along with our keys when we arrive, like other hotels. So every morning we had to go to the lobby, ask for the coupons, and walk the stairs to the cafe (or take the lift to M floor, where the cafe is). The buffet breakfast was very good and the chefs were very lovely and friendly. Although I must say that the rest of the F&B crew weren't friendly, especially one lady in particular who kept watching the guests as they were filling up their plates. It felt like she's taking notes of how much food you eat and how many plates you use. Oh, and do note that the milk is not good. It doesn't even taste like milk. But the rest of the food and beverages were good.
Traveling to and from the hotel:
a. To Legoland:
The hotel will offer you taxi for less than MYR 70, but we have more affordable solution. Walk towards Pelangi Plaza, wait for the bus near the overhead pedestrian bridge. All buses that pass Pelangi Plaza are going to JB Sentral, and the fee is MYR 1.20. From JB Sentral, wait for the yellow LM1 bus at platform 1. It will take you to Legoland for only MYR 4.50 (Hello Kitty Land costs less than that). Note: although the map shows that Larkin is closer to the hotel than JB Sentral, do not go to Larkin. Go to JB Sentral instead, because the place is more convenient and most passengers wait at JB Sentral so by the time the bus leaves JB Sentral the seats are all taken. If you board the bus at Larkin you might have to stand up for the whole trip which takes about an hour or so.
b. From Legoland:
Wait for the LM1 bus. Alight at JB Sentral. If you're too tired and want to go by taxi, find the taxi booth. To get there, go inside the small building on your right. Go straight to the other exit near the Senai Airport shuttle bus booth and turn left. The small taxi booth is located there. If you're feeling adventurous and want to go by bus, ask the bus timer person (the guy sitting at the desk near where the buses are) or a bus driver, which bus is going to Pelangi Plaza. You may not board the same bus you ride when you travel from the hotel to JB Sentral, because they have different route and it will take you longer to get to the hotel. Ask the driver which bus goes right to Pelangi Plaza. On the way, look for Pelangi Plaza or ABMH Restaurant sign. If you see it, you've reached your destination :-)
c. To the airport:
If you have bulky luggage or if you're not flying with Air Asia, you might want to arrange with the front desk to order you a taxi. It's mentioned on the website that they provide airport transfer, but during our stay there, we learned that they actually don't. They will call a taxi for you. If you travel light with Air Asia, just board any bus from Pelangi Plaza to JB Sentral, report to the Senai Airport shuttle bus booth there and board the Causeway Link shuttle bus to the airport. Look up the internet for the airport shuttle bus schedule before you leave and allow yourself approximately 2 or 3 hours to travel from the hotel to the airport since the bus may not come on time.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Hallmark Regency Hotel, and will definitely stay again if we visit Johor Bahru in the future.

It is not hygiene at all, enter the room was stink smell and basin is stuck with lots of dirts coming from the water sink. Floor map is extremely very dirty, table was so oily and dirty, pillow is so lousy. Not recommended this hotel but the chinese lady staff is so helpful. Housekeeping didn’t do proper maintenance and cleaning just simply clean

Came here on the 14th of December Night. Thought the parking was private but it was public. Although they said a security guard would watch it, felt uneasy to just park the car there. In addition, the inside of the hotel felt a bit scary, dimmed lights etc. The elevator was very small as well. When we went to our room, the keycard was unable to open the door after multiple tries. The hallways were very scary as lights were dimmed and no windows. We could hear a baby crying as our father went down to check with the receptionist. We were then upgraded to level 3. When we entered the room, the room smelled weird. It smelled like moth balls and the room felt a bit unclean. And of course, the lights were dimmed. The toilet was clean and dirty at the same time. It was also very small. Moving on, the beds on the other hand felt very itchy at times. In front of the beds there was a small tv. Since it’s world cup season, it didn’t had the channel for it so we were quite disappointed. At the small table area, there was a spot on the floor that was wet. In addition, the bottled drinks and food needed to be paid. No complimentary items at all. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to staycay or have a holiday here. To whoever’s reading this, please try to avoid this hotel. Book the hotel beside it, Grand Paragon. It is a better choice.

For the low price I wasn't expecting too much. My 1st room 116 upon entering was found to be flooded by the aircon drain. I was then assigned 216 exactly the same room layout but not flooded.
Both rooms were supposed to be Delux, if you look at the advertised photos, these look OK. But don't be fooled like myself. The Deluxe Rooms are nothing like what is deing advertised. Small Room, tired, smells musty, shower floods the entire bathroom and with no window.
Please Don't be fooled like myself and believe in what is being advertised - Its simply not a true reflection.

Don't trust review from online booking site. I booked this hotel from AXXX as last min deal. It was totally my mistake! Room was too dirty and not cleaned. I suppose bed linen was just reused from previous guest. I regretted I trusted picture from online booking site and comment. Hotel needs a lots of refurbishment.

This hotel is one of the few hotels in Johor Bahru that fits four people in a room without blowing the budget. Also, the hotel offers admission tickets to both Legoland and Kitty Town at a discounted price. They also have shuttle service to various destination including Legoland and Kitty Town if you don't mind paying the price.
The reception area is quite open and new, but only looks good up to before you entered the elevators. The smell of the cigarette from there all the way to the room is not bearable. The carpet are nasty, dustball on corners of the room, dusty counters, and smelly fridge. Cleanliness is definitely an issue here. Even though this is a new hotel, things started to break. Thin walls - not meant for light sleeper.
Housekeeper and reception responded to my request immediately; first to unlock the in-room safe, second to unclog the toilet and third to stock up the room before we leave for the day.
There is open food court behind the hotel that it's very convenience. It could be a bit noisy at night.
If you are just looking for a budget place to stay, this is the one.

On 28/11/2015, I called(due to triple room was sold out in Agoda website) the hotel to check on the availability for triple room for 30/11/15 & 01/12/2015. A front desk named Mala answered my call and told me there is still 2 triple room available. Thus, I booked 1 triple room from Mala. I given my ETA to Mala, which is from 2300hrs to 0000hrs. I even told her this is a confirmed trip, i will come late, please don't release my room. I got my phone reservation no.(56340), room charges, from her. I even leave my phone no. to her, and asked her to repeat it. She repeated correctly. At this moment, I was impressed that the customer service that they rendered over the phone was above expectation for a 3* hotel in Johor Bahru.
When the day comes, I was very very very disappointed with what I have encountered.
1) ETA(estimated time arrival) issue. - OMG, they dont even know the procedure for ETA. When i arrived @ 2315hrs. The front desk lady told me that the HOTEL MANAGER RONALD TAN had released my room to walk in guest. They tried to called me but no one answer. I told her, my phone didn't ring. There isn't anyone call me regarding the hotel room issue. She insisted they did call & she straight jump to the conclusion that Mala taken down the wrong number. Then, she read my no. from the system & one of the number was incorrect. Is this the way they push away guest when they are in fault? Or she trying to push the blame and responsibility to Mala?
2) Front desk attitude (Assistant Hotel Manager Jasmine Tan)
She straight away told me they left with Twin room and i can add folding mattress into the room from three person. I told her to hold the room as i need to discuss with my wife and sister. To my surprise, when i entered the lobby and walked towards the counter, the snobbishness from the lady, i bet no one can accept. She asked How?!?!? I wondering I should be the one who ask how right??? Your hotel released my room which my ETA haven't passed.
We requested to speak to the night duty manager or any higher management. AGAIN!! I fainted, She claimed that she is the assistant hotel manager. Frankly speaking, with this kind of attitude and customer services, I opine that she should go for re-training. Or else, she really doesn't even fit to be a junior front office executive.
3) Hotel Room cleanliness
First night, we taken a twin room(room no 603), and a speedy recovery from Jasmine was free roll away bed since we are 3paxs. When we went up to the room, the room size is able to add the RAB. But after added the RAB, there will be no space to walk to the bathroom, as my wife is pregnant. Further more, once i saw the RAB, another disappointment. The mattress look old and dirty and not comfy at all. I rather to squeeze in a single bed with my pregnant wife. Thus, I asked the boy to remove it.
The pillowcase and bedsheet for the single bed are with strands of hair. We requested the boy to change it. Bathroom basin choked and stained. Bathroom with foul urine smell. Toilet bowl stained. There is rooms for improvement for housekeeping and hotel cleanliness.
On 01/12/2015 morning, i went down to reception for extension stay. I met Mala. A nice indian lady with well manner. Sincere apologies to me due to his mistake for taken down the wrong number. I really pity her, why the managers want her to cover for their mistake. Obviously not her mistake, but why eventually mistakes & responsibility goes to her. They informed me that room is available, they charged me triple room rates and free upgrade me to a family room as part of service recovery.
We changed to room 602, a big family room. After we proceeded to the room, we noticed the bathroom still with same problem, toilet bowl with pinkish and yellowish stain, strong urine smell. We informed the receptionist before we went out for our day. When we came back to our at night, we noticed they never solve the problem, instead of it, they just sprayed strong perfume in the toilet.
I really regret why i didn't take down picture of the room cleanliness & the behavior of the assistant manager. Otherwise, i can share with all the travellers.
To: The General Manager, you may contact me via my email jimmycheng8181@gmail.com if you have any enquiries.
My comment: A nice hotel with comfortable design and spacious room, but poor management. Can be better.

My comment: A nice hotel with comfortable design and spacious room, but poor management. Can be better.
