After we check into our room on the 9th floor, we were surprised to see used cotton buds on the bedside table and finger nails on the dressing table. The blinds in the bathtub was broken. We can't access the gym with room card. The hotel reception didn't give us the complimentary parking coupons and we had to pay for our parking fees during our stay.
The room was spacious and super comfy with views of JDT stadium and straits. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the huge swimming pool was excellent.

Part of a group of senior golfers, Victor at concierge made sure we never had to touch our heavy golf bags. Bags always put on and taken off bus for us and stored. Thank you Victor you certainly went out of your way for us. The hotel and surroundings were adequate, all staff friendly and breakfast good choice of food.

When two women go on a nostalgic holiday after more years than I can mention, the changes are enormous, except maybe Johor itself, it was lovely to still see all the local shops and streets, shopping in Malls was not for us. When talking to staff at the Thistle they were so helpful in every way above and beyond their jobs...the catering manager actually drove us to where I use to live with my husband and baby it was the most thoughtful act ever and I was so touched by his kindness..... Another member of staff got my sister and I some rambutans to eat our favourite fruit 😋. The foyer the restaurant are immaculate the food was good local and European cuisine maybe could be extended ...we were there for two weeks. You had many choices for breakfast no complaints there at all, stuff made tho order. Spending as much time at the swimming pool was a must for us, they were constantly cleaning it too. The room was a great size furniture looking tired here and there but I know these things are marked to be done.. I have to say the staff at the Thistle were the very best I’ve ever known, friendly so obliging, good room service, polite and courteous for me they made my holiday and I want to thank every single one of them for making my stay so perfect 😊

Stayed here for 3 days 2 nights and booked directly at the hotel website. I regret not checking the recent reviews in advance as I had stayed in 2013 and my experience then was pretty okay. As I write this review I feel so disgusted to be reminded of how our family stayed in filth for the 3 days we were there. We booked a king room and was given a room with 2 single mattresses put together side-by-side. Normally other hotels would put a comforter on top of the two mattresses before putting on a bedsheet. But not Thistle JB. It was very uncomfortable eventually as the mattresses moved, creating a hole in the middle. The bedsheet was also not wide enough to cover both mattresses, so you can see how dirty the mattresses were, full of black spots!! I still cringe with disgust everytime I think of them. I went into the closet to get the extra pillows but when I looked up there was a vent right above the pillows that was full of dust. Both my sons have eczema so we decided not to use the pillows (who knows how long the pillows have been placed right below the thick dust!). And the cockroaches were also so disgusting! On the first night, we had dinner in our room. Less than 15 mins after taking out food from its container, we saw a few cockraches in the plastic bag that carried our dinner. Then we saw cockraches on the curtains and tables too. Don’t get me started on the bathroom - the tiles were filthy! The shower room was clogged, we were only given 2 towels and no bath mat. Bath tub was not functioning. The 2nd day we went for a daytrip to Singapore and upon arriving back at the hotel on 12.30am, we found out the room was not cleaned at all! I checked with my parents who stayed next door, their room was also not cleaned despite them putting out the sign out their door. The room smelled like dirty socks as the air conditioning was not switched on while we were away. Once we switched it on the smell went away. We were too tired and kids were too cranky to request for the room to be cleaned. Breakfast was also very lousy. There were variety of food but mostly tasteless. Pool area was also poorly maintained and towels not provided for some of the days (only available on 1 out of the 3 days we were there). Lifts to the poolside area were also out of service, so its not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Overall really bad experience here, management please do something with this!

Went in August 2020 for my husband's birthday celebration. At the same time, I was in JB for work. We enjoyed our stay. The candle light dinner in Glass House was memorable. Thank you to the waitress who is friendly as our daughter liked her loving character :) My daughter enjoyed watching the fishes surrounding the restaurant too. The food was delicious esp the lamb. Birthday boy was happy. Thank you for the complimentary cake as a surprise. Our room was having problem with the door and the hotel upgraded our room to the sea view room. Thank you very much for the sea view upgrade! We could see Singapore from the room. We recently went for the second time yestrday, and this time swimming pool is available to use. Yeah! The English breakfast was ok though we hope one day there will be buffet again after PKP ends. We will come again soon! Please keep up the good service ya:)

Upon checking in, there are no towels in sight. Called the room service, told me that they will send. Waited for an hour but no one send them up. So we went out. When we came back at 6pm, still no towels in sight… called again and told me it will be on its way. Called again in another half hour, telling me someone will be sending it up. I called again 2 more times after that, getting super frustrated. Eventually towels came at 9.15pm. Simple basic items like towel is not even in the hotel upon checking in and practically have to beg for them with multiple calls.

My family and I had the extreme misfortune of staying at this hotel during our recent holidays.
First, when we entered the room, there were three cockroaches inside the bathroom and one on the carpet! When I asked the reception staff named Azlina to change to another room, she said there was nothing they could do about it as the hotel is infested with cockroaches and there will be cockroaches in other rooms. All they could provide me was insecticide spray! Imagine my horror when I heard that!
Second, the air conditioning was not working. Again Azlina said that the air conditioning was not working in the whole hotel, and there was nothing she could do about it. Later, I found out from another hotel staff that only rooms with a sea view have functioning air-conditioning. I felt so cheated.
Thirdly, there was no hot water for the shower. During check-in, a note said no hot water from — 11/4/22 to till13/4/22. But I checked in on the 14/4/22 night. The same lady again told me they couldn’t do anything about it.
It was 10 pm, and I asked her to arrange another room in another hotel nearby since they couldn't get me a proper room in their hotel; she asked me to sort it myself.
I asked to escalate the matter to the manager; she said the managers are uncontactable! I am appalled by her indifferent attitude! She was not bothered to help me.
Frustrated, my family cut short our stay and check-out the following day. The whole experience spoiled our holiday.

I recently stayed at Thistle JB and had a frustrating experience regarding a lost item. Just three hours after checking out, I realized I had left my hair curler in the drawer of my room. I promptly called the hotel, and my call was answered by a staff member named Nico.
To my dismay, Nico did not ask for essential details like my check-out date or room number. I had to provide this information myself, which set a negative tone for the conversation. Instead of actively asking for information, he seemed ignorant and excused himself and leaving the phone down and allowing background noise to dominate the call. Not until 3 minutes, when he finally informed me that nothing had been found in my room, I felt frustrated, as I was certain the curler was in the second drawer. I sense he did not even check with Housekeeping department.
There was no follow-up from him, just a quick transition to “Is there anything else I can do for you?” It felt as though my concern was dismissed rather than addressed. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, Nico insisted he was about to explain further, yet he twisted his words, which only added to my frustration. He finally said he would have housekeeping check and promised to call me back, but he didn’t even confirm my mobile number before hanging up.
When he called back 20 minutes later, he informed me that the hair curler had been found! I was shocked, as he had initially stated that nothing was there. This inconsistency, coupled with his lack of professionalism, left me feeling undervalued as a customer.
In my experience, a reception desk should take the time to double-check with housekeeping, especially after a guest has checked out. The hotel is $98sgd and when the receptionist opened the booking my request was written that it was my birthday and my passport too had it but I wasn't even wished happy birthday. There is no personal touch.
I booked n requested for simple birthday Deco if possible they replied they don't have it.
I emailed n asked for high tea they said they don't have it.
I went there check in n asked about pool it's closed till tuesday
The hotel phone in room is not working
I asked for late checkout they said not able to.
Receptionist mentioned tat breakfast at 7am alot is the best to go since not so crowded and said pls don't complain if long queue if u go at a later timing in the end of was till 10.30am just for this I placed an alarm n woke up 8.30am and 9.15am there was no queue.
There was a problem with the shower head and I had to use towel to tie the tap so tat the water shower will work.
The restaurant at around 6.30pm was empty and had no lights that I had to ask if it's open then they switched on the lights.
The view was stated as city view more like carpark view.
Not worth at all.

Hotel is not really suitable for families with young children. The only saving grace was the hotel swimming pool which has a tiny slide. Other than that, hotel was poorly equipped with amenities. Room was not made well to welcome guests. Baby cot mattress was so thin that baby obviously could not sleep in it. The worst is the noise level. There is no shuttle bus services provided by the hotel.
Most of the hotel serves Sahur & iftar should they have room service or f&b outlets
