To be fair, at the outset I should say we didn't stay here. We visited the Hotel Masongola for a drink one evening, during a power cut, having eaten at the neighbouring Annie's Lodge. If you're a fan of 70's horror classic 'The Shining' then visit this place during a power cut. We were shown to the bar by a mumbling,faceless...

Worth a visit but not a stay, a great let down as this was once the place to stay. Rooms tired and grubby, dingy corridors. Dining room and food both lacking in character, in fact had no character. The whole place is in terminal decline.Has. Bar but missable.

This is one of the better hotels in Zomba and easily recognizable with its green roof. It used to be the home of the governor of Malawi when it waas still under British rule. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. It has a color tv and a good bathroom. The service is average, the bar the same. Restaurant is...

The hotel needs serious renovation to some semblance of modern hospitality. This says it all as it reflects what you expect from the rooms.....still with colonial appendages and therefore not as inviting. Small old bar which also needs attention. Very basic restaurant but food is ok.

We stayed here for two nights in July 2015. We chose the executive room over the standard and felt the small additional cost ( about 4USD) was worth it. The room was clean and adequate but not in its first flush of youth. The building has a fascinating history and dates back to the 1880s. A rare thing in Malawi...

This hotel is interesting mostly because it is so old. There are very few buildings in the interior of Africa that are over one hundred years, but this is one of them. When Zomba was still the capital of Malawi, before 1971, this was more or less the only note in town, a stone throw from the parliament and the...

This hotel is for those who want to experience part of what it was like to live in a British Governor's mansion. The hotel has seen its better days but still has charm. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is worth spending a night.

this is an old colonial building which has changed little since those days, and this where its charm lies. Stayed for 3 weeks and really enjoyed the experience, the okeys in the grounds are first class entertainment. Nothing happens quickly here, particularly meals !

I stayed here for business in a single room with a full size bed in the part of the hotel that looks like an American elementary school built in 1970. I didn't see any of the other accommodation options here so maybe the other rooms are nicer. I came in at night - thank goodness the driver knew how to...

Coming into Zomba from Lilongwe at night, this hotel was not easy to find. It is set behind the main street , 20 minutes walk (uphill) from the town ‘centre’. The position is great – on a sloping hillside, the mountains behind, and next to the botanic gardens. The manned gate gives a sense of security. There is the main...
