This hotel has been built for 1,000 years, incredible history. The best part is outdoor onsen by the river. Staff are very friendly. Excellent breakfast, We enjoy staying in this hotel. I recommend to stay in the room with dinner in the room, Even thoug it was renovated and look modern from the outside. You can experience the real traditional...

This was my first Ryokan/Onsen experience and I wasn't sure what to expect but as in every japanese establishment I stayed at the staff were very courteous and attentive. We took the free shuttle from Sendai station East exit, prebooked via the Sakan website - ask at JR East Travel Service if you can't find the shuttle stop and were...

The natural beauty of this place and the experience of bathing in hot springs in the middle of it all can't be overstated. This hotel has been operating and in the same family business in some form or another for over ONE THOUSAND YEARS, which is ridiculous. The level of service is amazing and the food (both formal dinner and...

My colleague booked this place for us, because he felt it was a uniquely Japanese experience and his favorite ryokan and onsen in the area. The place did not disappoint. This is a 1,000 year old traditional Japanese ryokan, although only documented for the past 500 years? It is beautifully and elegantly furnished. When you enter, you feel like you...

English speaking tourist will be hard pressed to find a reference to this world class property. Except for a visiting dignitary, I doubt that many Americans have been guests at Sakan. My Japanese vocabulary consists of 50 or so phrases which was more than the English skills of anyone at this remarkable ryokan. The awkward communication just added to the...
