Very close to the train station (5 mins walk) with good access to shops and restaurants. However the closest convenient shop is around the station. Room is spacious and relatively modern. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I've stayed at this hotel twice. Both times I had a good experience. The location is hard to beat--it's very close to Akita Station and it's easy to find. The other good thing is that the hotel rooms are more spacious than some other chain hotels, even the single rooms. Also, the hotel feels secure because you must use your room key to enter the elevator. My experience checking in was smooth and pleasant. The front desk staff are excellent. Even when I made a mistake with my reservation, they handled it easily and still arranged a room for me. I love that you can get skincare products at the front desk too! After checking in at the front desk, you must pay at a vending machine. Personally I found the machine payment to be quick and easy, so I didn't mind it at all.

The staff checked me in an hour early, so I had plenty of time to get in a shower and start a load of laundry. I was given Room 1009, a bit bigger than most business hotels rooms, with a double bed, work desk, small table and chair, air cleaner, mini- fridge and tea service. There was a free- to- use smartphone and a charger octopus with many different connectors. The hotel is pretty new and still has that just- opened feel to it. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding, towels and such were all high- quality. The window opened a bit for some welcome fresh air. The bathroom was nicer than most business hotel versions, a bit more room and a nice counter / sink and armatures. The coin laundry has combo washer- dryers with easy- to- understand directions and automatic detergent – you don’t have to try and find detergent, as many of these facilities make you do, and you don’t have to go back down to move the clean clothes into the dryer. The cycle time in minutes is displayed on the machine when you start it, so you know when to come back. The hotel is a street and an alley over from the main drag, which leads from the station to the ponds in front of the castle grounds. There’s a covered walkway from the station to one block short of the hotel’s block. The best restaurants are all nearby. In short, the location is excellent. The staff were very helpful throughout my stay. Breakfast was good and there was a very large, square wooden table in the middle with plants in the center and it made the room more interesting. They have a free coffee machine which works from breakfast opening until evening. All in all, it’s an excellent place to stay.

Located about 2 blocks from the JR Akita Station. The hotel is pretty new and quite modern. The rooms are relatively big for Japan standards. Close by is a shopping mall complex and the bus station. Check in is easy and quick. Most guests are in town for business. The hotel was able to organise a taxi for us going to the Seitai Hoshikai Handmaids of the Holy Eucharist / Our Lady of Akita Shrine. This was really helpful of them. They also made sure that a taxi will take us back to the hotel as the location is quite far and inaccessible to public transportation.

The hotel is located only 5 minutes from the Akita station on foot. When checking in, they offer you some amenities but then there are more in the room. Our room was a standard twin which was very clean and a good size for two people. The hotel staff were all very nice and helpful. We stayed there only for one night but could happily stay there longer. Highly recommended.

It was my first time in Akita, came at 4 PM from Kakunodate. The hotel is easy to find and it is in a moderate distance from Akita station. Went there for the Kanto festival, 3d of August 2018. I had to book in advance and no deposit fee was requested, I guess since I was previous customer of Richmond Sendai. Great service. Although breakfast was not included, the price was reasonable considering Akita was very crowded during Kanto festival. The lobby of the hotel also had so many merchandising about Hachiko and Akita inu and about Namahage and Kanto festival which was so cool.

We arrived early and front desk allowed us to leave our luggage in their care while we explore Akita. Check in was painless and the young lady at front desk was very friendly and helpful. We also got lovely Japanese beauty product samples free of charge which was generous and nice of them. Coin laundry was great, price includes auto detergent, free ice dispenser on floor with vending machines. Room was clean and decent size, could accommodate 2 x 78cm luggage with room to move around it. Bathroom amenities very nice. Great locality, close to everything you could need such as shops, food stores and train. Highly reccommend!

The Richmond is an excellent choice for a visit to Akita. The hotel is modern, extremely well kept, and superbly located in the city. The staff was efficient and friendly. The room was small by western standards, but bigger than some hotel rooms we have stayed in while in Japan. It was quiet. Onsite parking is convenient and affordable. Breakfast offered eggs, sausage, and toast for westerners and a broader variety of Asian breakfast foods: salad, soup, rice, fish, and natto.

The fact that this is currently the top rated hotel in Akita speaks for the desolate situation of the city as whole. GDP/capita is one of the lowest in Japan, and there is a strong decline in population as people move to the larger cities. The Richmond itself is a good business hotel. It doesn't feel particularly fresh with its many brown, beige and grey tones. But it's clean and efficient. Beds are slightly worn through. Yet internet is fast, and a mobile phone with guide is offered as an amenity. (Never mind that phone guide's nearest restaurant recommendation is 347km away...) The station is a five minutes walk away, and there plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
