A great economical place with free Japanese breakfast. The room was small but it was clean and comfortable with enough space for working on laptop computers. LAN connection as well as WI-FI in all rooms and lobby area. Humidifiers available in the room. Helpful friendly staff. This hotel is one of the Toyoko Inn chain hotels. The rooms are the same style as those of other Toyoko inn. There are smoking and non-smoking rooms. You can use free wifi in your room. The most feature of this hotel is the good location for sightseeing: 10min walk to the lift to castle, 20 min walk or 5 min by train to Dogo Onsen. Also there is a bus stop near the hotel to go to airport. The price is reasonable and I recommend this hotel.
Toyoko Inn Matsuyama Ichibancho is just 5 - 10 minutes walk away from the shopping street and Mitsukoshi Departmental store. There is also a tram stop just a minute away. On the room itself, it's standard Toyoko-Inn layout and furnishing. It was neat and clean. Breakfast was exceptional with a good food spread for Toyoko-Inn standards. No frills budget hotel, highly recommended.
Convenient location, a must for us. Room was nice and clean. Luggage was held on checkout with rapid, efficient return to us after touring. A cab arrived within 5 minutes of hotel calling for one to bring us to the train station and our previously scheduled departure for Okayama. Expected less for breakfast based on prior TA reviews for this hotel chain but was satisfied with hard boiled eggs, fresh salad and rice balls. Liked the coffee machine options and could hear the beans being ground. Excellent restaurant in the International Hotel Matsuyama, less than a 5 minute walk away. ( It was not the "Intercontinental Hotel," as I incorrectly noted on my TA restaurant review.) Would definitely stay here again.
As you might aware, this hotel chain is relatively well-known in Japan with their reasonable(cheap) room rate but quite cleaned and well organized room and B/F restaurant. Around JPY7,000 for 1 double bed or twin bed room per night include tax and B/F is very attractive, I think. Besides, its location is prettey esy accessable to downtown, Matsuyama caste as well Dogo hot spring. One tip that if you plan to go Dogo hot spring for bath experience, you can ask reception to get towels and it is free of charge, on while you should pay some hundreads yen if you borrow at Dogo hotspring.
As it is the case for most of Toyoko Inns, this hotel in Matsuyama Ichibancho is very conveniently located. In front of the hotel is Katsuyamacho tram station, where you can take a tram for Dogo Onsen. Okaido shopping arcade is just 5minutes' walk, and the bus to airport stops also nearby.
I'm a great fan of Toyoko Inn, especially when I get a free night after every ten, which usually happens once every Japan visit for me. Consistency and predictability are the bywords, it's sort of like the McDonalds of the hotel world. So location is the major variable and this one is located on the street car line about halfway between the JR station and Dogo onsen, so for the typical Western tourist, quite convenient. There's a tram stop right opposite and an easy walk to the castle. A really nice crab restaurant opposite - you can't miss it! Staff were friendly and helpful, wifi signal was strong in my room.
Booked this hotel in Matsuyama as it was one of the cheaper options in town, plus the Toyoko Inn website was in English (not many hotel websites in Matsuyama are!). Had stayed at a Toyoko Inn previously, so I knew about all the usual quirks that come with this chain. All in all though, this particular Toyoko Inn exceeded my rather average expectations. The receptionists were delightful and most helpful. The usual Japanese breakfast also included some toast and jam (for those of us not keen on rice balls & pickles for breakfast!). There was free coffee available in the lobby during the day. There was also free wi-fi in the lobby and in the rooms. The rooms are the normal size for a hotel of this sort in Japan, done up with the usual Toyoko Inn décor flair! The location was good, less than a 10 min walk to the main undercover shopping street and the ropeway. There is a streetcar stop just outside the hotel from which you can get to Dogo. Previously, my biggest complaint about the Toyoko Inns was their policy that you couldn’t go to your room during the day when they are cleaning - very annoying! But they now have a “Green” booking option that circumvents this policy – just make sure you select this option when booking on-line. This option means that they will only clean your room on the 3rd day of your stay (they still give you fresh towels every day) and they even charge you less for your room on the days when they don’t clean. Ultimately this means you can return to your room during the non-cleaning days! Normally I would give a Toyoko Inn 3 out of 5 but they deserve an extra star for the small, but apperciated, improvements!…
This Toyoko-Inn hotel is located in the city center, about 1 mile from the JR station. It is also close to the Matsuyama castel (worth a visit!) When we checked in the receptionist claimed that we had cancelled our booking, which we didn't. After this initial hick-up they gave us 2 rooms anyway. The twin rooms are small but convenient. They offer free wifi internet and free breakfast. The breakfast is japanese, except for the toast and marmalade. Taking price/value into account, this hotel is a good option.
Well, all the Toyoko Inns are the same - up to the details of the rooms. Then again, why change a winning formula? The Toyoko Inn at Matsuyama offers absolutely no surprises and the room look absolutely the same as they do in other cities in Japan. But then again, all Japanese cities, too, look the same. The upside is that the hotel has no let downs, either. The rooms are tidy, business sized and pleasantly enough decorated. It might not feel like much, but after having run into bedbugs in my previous hostel in Matsuyama, the safety of the Toyoko Inn felt very reassuring. All in all, it's comfort in business form & size at reasonable prices. Anyone looking for any experiences should steer clear, but if it's basic commodities and tidiness at reasonable prices the Toyok Inn Matsuyama is a good bet. The shower is a bit cramped, though.…
