Great location a few hundred yards from the station. There’s good onsite parking if you need it, large and pleasant reception and lounge and good Wi-Fi. The hotel also has its own Onsen which we didn’t have time to use but which we understood was really good. The bedrooms were a bit dated but large and comfortable as were the beds. The TVs were small with only local stations available. The small en-suite looked and felt as though the entire thing including floors, walls, ceiling, door and fittings, had been provided as a drop in unit but is all functioned well enough and the heated mirror above the sink was a welcome feature. The WC itself was the usual Japanese creation incorporating both loo and bidet with heated seat - very unusual but you soon get used to it. The bed linen and duvets were very good but the towels were pretty small and had been laundered to within a millimetre of their useful working life. Breakfast was mainly Japanese but saved by a good egg station. The staff were very pleasant and several had good English.

I was told this is the best hotel in Beppu, where the VIPs stay. Quite disappointed how old the hotel is. Not fashionably old, not antique, not quaint. Just old, dowdy old. Definitely needs a facelift. Our room was a Japanese tatami room. It said they had wi-fi but hardly any reception in our corner. Lots of instructions everywhere in the room but hardly any in English. Even if there were, horrible translation. Couldn't understand anything. The onsen was nice but once again, it seems like they haven't done any upgrade since 1980. I can see they do everything they can to keep things clean and nice, and I applaud the effort to maintain the place but the infrastructure seems to be at its limit. I have been to many Ryokans but this one was too ho-hum for hype I was getting. Would not stay here again.

i have been in beppu for 5 nights and i stayed at shiragiku. i did bed and breakfast plan and it was perfect to discover beppu for lunches and dinners. the hotel was perfect and the staff super welcoming. less than 10 minutes walk from beppu station, it's in the perfect location to have a wonderful view from the top breakfast hall and enough close to move around the town by feet. the private grand bath has indoor and outdoor with all the needed amenities. the best for relax. when i'll go back to beppu, i'll go here again.

I loved my stay here. It was wonderful to stay in a ryokan with excellent service. The restaurant served an authentic Kaiseki meal. While dining, my room was prepared for sleeping. Before going to bed, I enjoyed a bath in the hotel's onsen. I enjoyed an authentic Japanese experience here.

We felt so welcomed in this hotel and love that they don’t have straight meal time lot so we could relax and enjoy meals. Food is excellent, lovely staff, one of the hot spring is a bit smaller but the other one much bigger is really nice. Staff from bell desk, front desk, restaurants to shop staff, all are friendly and helpful. I would recommend to my friends
