Its not luxurious, and feels more like a family owned business. So they sell on service and not amenities. Its off the main road in Nikko with a 10 min walk. Its quiet and dark at night so you can get a good nights rest. If you need tourist info, the staff is more than glad to help. Rooms and...

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night in the middle of our trip to Japan, as we wanted to visit Nikko. I am only sad we could not stay here for longer! The location of this hotel is stunning, right by a river and with mountain views. Really quiet and picturesque. It is a little tricky to get to...

Hotori An is a reasonable hotel located in a quiet section of Nikko, yet near many sites and attractions, including the nearby 'Abyss.' The rooms are small but clean, and the staff is very attentive. If you're looking for a Japanese experience, then this is not the ideal place. However, there is a hot springs bath, which is very nice....

Nikko is very busy in October because of the popular indian summer in the area. This traditional ryokan offered us a great rest by the Daiya river, away from the traffic jams on the main highway. Personnel was absolutely delightful, pretty fluent in english. B&B is very well maintained and was decorated for Halloween. Private onsen was a must and...

This is not a fancy place, but a very charming simple hotel. The staff are very friendly and polite. My Japanese style room was excellent value. The heater worked very well, the bedding was very comfy. Breakfast could include some more items, but at least you won't overeat. Everything was yummy though. There is sometimes a queue for the Onsen...

Hotori-an is a casual minshuku style accommodation in a modern building next to the Daiya River. It's a little away from the main part of Nikko, but well located especially for visiting Kanmangafuchi Gorge and the Imperial Villa and not too far from the World Heritage listed shrines and temples. Although each room has a bath/toilet, I recommend enjoying the...

The 2* rating reflects the fact that this is a functional place to stay rather than having lots of amenities, but for what I needed (two rooms for two nights) it did everything I needed it to. The location away from the main road makes it quiet/secluded. The nearest bus stop is quite a distance, but with a car or...

This inn is a bit out of town (taxi rides cost us 1090¥ there and 1540¥ return from Nikko JR station) but it is close to the shrines and on the riverbank by the edge of the forest. We had a large tatami room, which was very comfortable, but the room lacked some basic amenities eg tea and coffee making...

I was discouraged a little when I looked through hotel websites' photos of it. The hotel is actually in great conditions. It sits on the bank of a stream and practically next to a wonderful tourist spot. The hot bath is clean and lovely. The staff was fantastic. It's a bit far from bus stop, but the walk along the...

This is a lovely and traditional place to stay. The onsen, with views of the river, is lovely and can be used privately. It's available all night so ideal for an early dip if you're jet lagged. Free green tea available and excellent breakfast which is good value. Freshly prepared and delivered to your table. Rooms have private bathrooms.
