Hotel Hanaan was a great location to stay to visit nearby Nikko and as a car enthusiast it was a welcome location to be right at the top of Irohazaka. We had a room with a private onsen and the room was always well kept and had ample space. The views were spectacular of Lake Chuzenji and the Torii gate over the village. Honestly I was hopeful for the nearby restaurants but most of the ones within walking distance were a bit subpar and we had better luck at the bottom of the mountain. The food served in the ryokan was as expected and as someone who doesn't eat a lot of sea food, they did go above and beyond to make sure I still had something for me to eat while my wife ate and enjoyed the standard menu. The staff was friendly and we were able to get by on English. Overall it was a very memorable experience and probably one of the nicer rooms we've stayed in during our trips to Japan. This review is a bit late and we were really there in November 2019 - keep in mind that it does get colder and the foliage falls a lot sooner at that top than down below. So while Nikko was gorgeous, up at the lake it was definitely past it's peak and I wish we had gone a couple weeks earlier.…
Room is nice and spacious, love the heater under the table but be careful not to touch when it on. Food is ok and not as good as I expected. Hot spring is surprisingly small. The best part is you get the view of the Giant Red Tori gate and Chizenji Lake from the room.
disappointed! bad service! not and nothing like features on your home page! the home page are photos of the inauguration of epoch! and very old, maintenance very bad ! hospitality and much lower than the standard Japanese, for the amount paid you can stay in better places! not worth the money paid! disappointed!
Being next to the Lake Chuzenji, you can oversee the beautiful scenery from your room. The hotel staffs are very kind and actively show the professional servicing to us. BTW. You can never miss their delicious and delicate dinner and breakfast, especially for the yummy rice.
It is a modern Japanese Ryokan situated 45 mins by bus from Tobu Nikko Station. If you take a look at their website, you will find each room comes with the view of Chuzenji, and its true! The view was beautiful (one of the reasons why I chose this hotel in the first place)! The room was equipped with bathroom and toilet so you don't have to use the public bath! The indoor onsen was a bit tiny but ventilation was good so I enjoyed it very much. The outdoor onsen was milky in color with a very strong scent of sulfur which I couldn’t stand so I spent only a few mins outside. Their meals (both dinner and breakfast) were very delicious, beautifully presented and filling. If you are a veg fan, you’ll love their meals as one of the main dishes at dinner was steamed local vegetable! Will I go back? Yes!…
