Located a bit further away than most of the other hotels so you'll have to do some walking or ask for a bus. Hotel felt a little bit deserted because the weren't many other guests staying at that time and only staff member we saw was working at the reception (and drove the hotel bus too, so sometimes there was no one at the reception). Room was really big and somewhat clean, there was a weird stain that looked liked a bloody footprint on the tatami. :D Restaurant was closed so there was no dinner or breakfast available there. We booked one of the private onsen outside and it was really nice. It was a decent stay because the price was so cheap.

15mins walk from Kinugawa Onsen station. They have a private onsen for hire for 3100 yen or they can shuttle you back and forth to their sister hotel for public onsen for 500 yen (very basic onsen). Nice big clean rooms (if you don't mind the smell of smoke). But as we didn't speak much Japanese, asking reception for anything was difficult. No English and no smiles at this place unfortunately.

The hotel looks like a well-maintained old hotel. It's a Japanese-style hotel (with tatami and futon inside the room), spacious room but lacks the standard service of a normal hotel. The receptionist doesn't speak English, and although not being rude but I believe they could've been nicer (at least smiling would be nice). They do have private onsen inside that we can book for 3100 yen for 50 minutes (ideally fit for 2 persons only). They do have a restaurant but during my stay there we didn't try it because of the expensive dinner and breakfast price. Oh yeah the room fee doesn't include breakfast. So if you don't mind walking 15 mins from the station (I know for those coming from a country whose people is not used to walking everywhere, it will be a bit tough), this is an acceptable hotel. The price is not that cheap but at least it can be shared up to 3 people in my experience without additional cost. But if you look for the full-service hotel with good hospitality from the staffs, I don't think this is the choice.…

We stayed here for two nights. Room was large and clean. Beds were very firm mattresses on the floor. There was no tidying of the rooms while we were there e.g removing rubbish making beds etc. But it was a very inexpensive stopover. It was ok for a cheap stopover but I don't think we would return as it is at least two train rides from the shrines of Nikko and there is no where really to eat nearby. We just bought some snacks from the nearby 7/11 for the evening. It is a quirky unusual place but average in the whole scheme of things. Nikko itself is a huge place and I'm glad we have been here but there are far better places to visit in Japan then here.

Could only stay one night in Nikko (which is worth a two night visit). This hotel was quite serviceable. The good: - Onsen - Reasonable sized rooms. - Large comfortable lobby The OK: - A 1-2 km walk for places to eat for dinner (if you do not eat here, which was full and seemed quite pricey). A bus stop if close but Nikko bus service is not too frequent Wifi is only available in the lobby (but is free). - Service is OK, good by Western standards but not as good as normally high Japanese standards.

お風呂は別館へ車で数分移動。車は無料で出してくれるが別館での入浴に５００円かかる。ホテルに備えの風呂は貸切風呂で別料金。５０分で３０００円程度。朝食、夕食とも別料金。夕食はビュッフェ形式１人３０００円程度。ビールを中ジョッキ９００円で売っているところから食事内容も推し量ることができるだろう。 You have to go to another hotel to enjoy hot spring and need to pay 500yen for it, of course you can use hot spring in the hotel but in this case you must rent a hot spring room and have to pay 3000yen/h for that. Breakfast and dinner is not included in the fare(depending on the plan) 這個飯店溫泉有是有，但必須借溫泉室要3000塊日幣，吃晚餐要3000塊日幣，啤酒一杯900日幣。早餐也要付早餐費。你要理解住房費不包含這些費用。

A very simple japanese style hotel, with private outdoor onsens by the woods, very quiet and relaxing. We were able to anticipate one hour the check in, something almost impossible here in Japan where flexibility and improvisation are not taken in consideration. Large zen rooms with tatami and fouton, essential comfort. Confortable Lobby area and lounge, a reading room with a very wide collection of manga books. Large restaurant and lovely staff. Shinugawa Onsen is a spa town along the "angry devil" river, populated by small devil statues. It's close to a beautiful gorge, Edo wonderland and about 30-mins by local train to Nikko (310 yen one way). The hotel is 15 mins walk or there's a "dial bus" that you can book through reception for 200 yen. The hotel is interesting, a mix of Japanese style and 90s modernity. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, though curiously I kept getting annoying mosquitos even though the fly screens were closed and it was autumn. The front desk people speak some English and are very friendly and helpful. We ate out as we were touring, but I believe they have an interesting Japanese gourmet option that is very good. I'd recommend this place for value, spaciousness and a taste of Japanese hospitality. …

Room was cheap for the area, large with a great view (we were on the 8th floor). However, it had pretty dated decor and facilities. Unfortunately the room also smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke. I am a light smoker myself but don't want a room smelling like that. We told reception and the guy came up and sprayed the room with some chemical and said to ring again in 10 mins if we still were not happy. We rang but then they said they had no other rooms, although the car park was nearly empty! We stayed where we were as we were only staying one night. The staff were really polite. We also had the 'kaiseki' Japenese buffet meal in the restaurant on the ground floor which was excellent and went down to the sister hotel for the hot spring which was lovely too. A real mixed bag. If staying and you don't like the smell of cigarettes, may be worth mentioning it in your enquiry or booking.…

The hotel was very quiet and we could enjoy a peaceful stay. There were almost no other guests while we were there, and we were given a room on the highest floor. The room is clean and very big! We read reviews that it was spacious but were still surprised by the size. Beds were comfortable, and amenities including yukata and hanten were all provided though you have to take them yourself from the lobby area. Something a little different about this hotel is that you are provided lockers for your shoes at the lobby and you are supposed to walk barefoot/with socks in the corridors and rooms. We did not mind as the floor was either carpet or tatami and was not cold. Free wi-fi is in the lobby. The staff provided excellent service throughout our stay. They guided us through check-in smoothly. They sent us immediately by their private mini shuttle bus to the sister hotel Kinugawa Plaza Hotel for the hot spring (purchase from Otaki's front desk for 500 yen extra) and were equally prompt with fetching us back. They worried about us if we felt cold or tired, and they also went out of their way to specially send us to the train station earlier when they heard we could not make our train's timing with the earliest shuttle bus timing. We felt very protected and taken care of by the staff who were always friendly and polite. Note that they really speak no English, and there are a few things you may not know if you cannot read and converse in Japanese. For example, they have a shuttle bus service to and fro to the Kinugawa Onsen station, and to Nikko Edomura. Due to the hotel being in the mountains, you would think food is a problem, but if you ask the front desk staff about dining, they have prepared a map of the area with all the food marked out. They will tell you about which ones are open, and knowing that many are quite a distance, they can recommend a couple of places that will send you back and forth from the hotel to their restaurant. They will even call the restaurant for you to be fetched there. All-round pleasant experience, we are still in disbelief at how much value we got for the cost, and are regretting not staying longer!…
