We had a typical Japanese style room for 3 with a terrace overlooking the Ashi lake and unforgivable view of Fuji-san. The onset (Japanese hot-spring public bath) was indoors, but for just 900 yens per person we had access to the open air onsen at the Prince hotel (part of the same hotels chain) just 700 meters and 2 minutes...

My family travelled there in July and we had a very nice experience during our 2 nights stay there. The moment we arrived with the free shuttle bus by the door, a very lovely girl (the hotel staff) was welcoming us by the door and helped us with luggages and strollers. It turned out that she is from Taiwan so...

This hotel is in a beautiful location on the lake with beautiful views of Mt Fuji from the rooms. The traditional Japanese experience was amazing and certainly took us out of our comfort zones from sitting on the floor at dinner and breakfast to sleeping on the floor. The hotel was very traditional and there were mainly Japanese guests so...

My company did not tell me that we would be staying in a traditional Japanese hotel, so you can imagine my surprise when I walked into my room and found the tatami mats and...

We wanted a romantic start to our Tokyo trip in Oct 2011, so we decided to splurge a bit on a good ryokan. We were hugely disappointed. 1) Inconvenient transport - On the map, it was just 5 minutes walk from Hakone-en, but there was a huge lack of transport to this station, with only 1 bus that runs here,...

it would be a shame if you visit Japan not to have a ryokan experience so I recommend it as a one off. This one is a good option, though seemed virtually empty, was everyone in the new wing or have western hotels taken all the business?? More people may have enhanced the atmosphere, though as you dine in room...
