This is a classic ryokan with its own indoor and outdoor hot spring for you to enjoy throughout your stay. Dinner is scrumptious with authentic Japanese dishes prepared fresh for you and breakfast is buffet type with Japanese style selections. The hot spring is magnificent and there's also massage chairs provided for free after bath. Location is secluded and very...

We stayed two nights at Kinokuniya Ryokan and were pleasantly surprised by the large size of the room we were given (room 227) which overlooked the ryokan's garden. Unfortunately, while we were there, the garden was being renovated. The onsen baths, both public as well as private, were a joy to use. Please note that the two private baths need...

Kinokuniya is an excellent, well-located traditional ryokan located about 15 minutes by bus from Ashinoko Lake. The room was spacious and the meals were very good. It is important that you stay on the mountain, as you can go to Ashinoko and catch the first boat across the lake before all the package tourists arrive in the afternoon. You can...

The 'superior' public bath for women was a little too mossy for me to feel comfortable dipping in for too long. The rooms were clean but the comforter had some wear and tear. Looks old and traditional but was skeptical about cleanliness and hygiene all around, some nasty odors from the sewers in the onsen and the bathrooms.

Great hospitality and service as you'd expect from Japan. Traditional ryokan room with traditional clothes provided for meals. Private hot spring was the only letdown - very nice in spring but room very rundown and grimey

Stayed here overnight in a tatami room (are there any others?) Enjoyed the semi-outdoor onsen at night, and later soaked in the "public" bath which we had to ourselves. We ate both the dinner and the breakfast buffet. The dinner was really superb and even came with an English cheat-sheet to figure out what you were eating. The breakfast buffet was...

Stayd for one night. Room was great traditional but big japanese room. Exept for the really bad smell of smokes. It smelled like there had been smoked for decades and it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. Smell was so bad I felt sick during the night and it almost ruined the stay. Staff was helpfull and spoke good...

Stayed for 2 nights. After long reading on Tripadvisor we decided to book our stay at Kinokuniya Ryokan and we were very happy about our decision. Ryokan located on side street around 2-3 minutes walk from bus station. Onsen: They have 300 years of onsen experience and have many real onsen baths (both public and private) with two types of...

This is a great ryokan! Relatively easy to get to from Hakoneyumoto station and just a short walk from the ashinoyu bus stop. Went with my girlfriend for one night, wish we had done two though! Turned out to be way more luxurious than expected and great value for money. Definitely recommend getting dinner and breakfast included in your stay....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Why not try our medicinal spas? Kinokuniya opened in 1715 during the Edo period as a sophisticated inn and since has been in business for about 300 years. Quiet and tidy rooms, especially recommended for the guests who want to try onsen gushing on our premises.
