I picked Atami Sekitei because I wanted the Ryokan experience somewhere between Kyoto and Tokyo. I also read another review about tattoos being "ok" because my husband has a couple of tattoos. But we ended up doing the private onsen and it was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it. The public onsen was empty though and beautiful but we...

Atami is a seaside town that had it’s hey-day in the 80s, and it’s now a bit down-at-heel, but the Seketei Ryokan is reason enough for visiting. Our travel agent almost insisted we stay in an Onsen Ryoken to get the feel of traditional culture of Japan. And we’re very glad he did! Admittedly we only stayed one night here...

My family of 5 stayed at Sekitei just last month, and we had amazing experience staying and dining there. Our cottage was 3-bedrooms plus a living room so we had plenty of space to roam around in the beautifully arranged tatami rooms, with own entrance and our wonderful care lady. Onsen (hot spring) was wonderful, with "jade bath tubs" in...

We stayed at Sekitei for 1 night at the villa closest to the dining room. It was a very large villa with much more space than we needed for 4 adults. One of the highlights for us - the amazing toiletries they provide! The service right from our arrival to the minute our taxi left the hotel was impeccable. Every...

A typical Japanese ryuken (inn), our own private onsen ( hot spring), coupled with the best service one can ask for - what can be better after 3 days of hectic Tokyo. It was an outstanding 24 hours spent in this small town just 40 minutes from Tokyo by direct train. The chef deserves a special mention. The food and...

Tucked away in Japan is a hamlet called Atami and within it is the most serene Onsen you'll have the opportunity to visit and stay. It's called Sakuragaoka - it is the more premier and exclusive version of Atami Sekitel. The staff are well educated in English, and as is expected in Japan are extremely hospitable. The suite is reminiscent...

We stayed two nights at this wonderful ryokan for my husband's birthday in June. It was really a pleasant surprise! one night was at a normall room with no private onsen ensuite and another one night we moved to another unit with an outdoor private onsen. The ryokan is not far from the train station and about20 mins walking or...

My wife and I stayed here one night on our way back to Tokyo. And the place was just wonderful! So serene, so Peaceful! Our hostess was so wonderful and was even able to speak English fairly well (which was quite helpful as our Japanese was terrible). She was so helpful and really took care of us. The open air...

My wife and I stayed in Atami Sekitei after doing detailed research on the internet. However what made us reasonably sure that we were going to the right place was the lovely conversation we had via e-mail with one of the staff members who was the only lady there who spoke English as she had travelled in Europe before. Impecably...

My wife and I stayed in this amazing ryokan to experience traditional Japanese living. And we had a blast. “A villa is the way to go (not a room if offered). If you want to upgrade you can get a private hot spring attached to your room, but this is probably not needed due to the free hour a day you can book in the private large spring.”
