It's been awhile since we have stayed at a hostel, as we usually book accommodation through AirBnB, but we are really glad we had the opportunity to stay at this fantastic backpackers! Brian was a fantastic and welcoming host! He gave us a lot of good suggestions including an unforgettable half day trip to the Kiso valley. This was our...

Central location, close to the train station/bus terminal, sights in Matsumoto are within walking distance. The common area is nice and cozy, immediately met fellow travelers. But most of all, Pierre is an awesome host! Already from the moment you enter the hostel he is so welcoming that you'll want to stay forever. He hives great advice on sightseeing in...

We heard good stories from other travelers who stayed in Matsumoto Backpackers, unfortunately it was fully booked. But we still went there because the owner had good information about trekking in the area. We explained we didn't book a accommodation (because there was no room left on Hostelworld), but where looking forward to his advice for trekking. He was really...

We stayed in a dorm room here for one night. Our dorm room was full with four people, so it was a very tight fit and hard to walk around the room when all 4 futons were laid out. The room was very hot, although does have a fan. The room, common space, and bathrooms were very clean. The owner...

We had a very pleasant stay at Matsumoto Backpackers. We had a dorm room, which we used as a private room for us and the three kids. The rooms were covered with tatami mats. Futons were comfortable. Brian gave us valuable tips, what to do in town and on Saturday he stopped by with his son so that our kids...

Great little place with good location near the station. Staff were really friendly and super helpful about what to see and do in Matsumoto and wider area. Had a great time here, was only going to stay one night, but ended up being 3! Has a really local, personal feel. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Only stayed here for one evening as we passed through Matsumoto on the way the Alpine Route.15 minute walk from the station but we somehow managed to miss the hostel and kept walking. Luckily the Irish owner cycled up to collect us as two of his neighbours had made him aware of our mishap. We got a free upgrade to...

Hi there guys. That was funny that our neighbours caught sight of you while chatting in their garden and called us to catch you - lucky! Also we were glad that we could offer you the private room upgrade after your long day out - again lucky! Wishing you safe travels.

Had a great few days here. The hostel is like a small house and we slept in futons on the floor which was good fun! The living area is really nice and there was an unlimited supply of lovely apple tea! The hostel is minutes from Matsumoto Castle and maybe about a ten minute walk from the train station.
