Owner/manager super friendly, pro-active, informative, helpful and fluent in English. Good location. Spacious and perfectly equipped room with all amenitie possible. Extremely clean. Confortable futon. Onsen needs a little care (suggest to change plastic buckets for traditional wooden ones, though it is clean. Also available are private shower rooms in each floor. Nice dining lounge, excellent dinner and breakfast with...

Overall: This is what we expected of a luxury ryokan: fantastic accommodations, fantastic service, and fantastic meals. To quote/paraphrase Ferris Buellers, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend [it]." Pros: -Great service/staff -Best food on the trip -Amazing room -Hotel itself was like an art or history museum -Souvenirs available in small lobby gift shop...

I just saw the last couple reviews and have to share that for my adult son and I it was quite different. We booked through Expedia and paid less than 200.00 per night including breakfast, near the end of September during the week. We had a lovely room. We left our shoes at the front and put on the Yukatas...

I've just left there yesterday and I can't really put my finger on why I feel disappointed with my stay. The room was spacious. The Japanese breakfast was delightful. It was nicely furnished. I think the main two reasons were that it felt massively over priced and that the staff were pleasant but robotic. 1) we paid about 75,000 yen...

This ryokan caters broadly to foreign tourists, so language should generally not be a problem. The mistress/owner was delightful, and service was stellar. The lobby area was delightfully appointed and charming, as were the rooms themselves. In terms of negatives: As the ryokan is located in the middle of Takayama city, the view outside the room was of a parking...

I stayed here for one night with my husband and toddler in August 2016 (although three nights were booked). We are really laid back travellers and as you may see from my other reviews, I almost universally give 4-5 star reviews. And before you read on, I must say that in fairness, Ryokan Asunaro did refund the two nights we...

We were a family of 4 staying in a traditional tatami mat room - I think it was the largest room at the ryokan and it was just barely big enough. When all 4 futons were out and with 4 smaller suitcases it was a little tight even though it was 2 rooms. It was nice to have the small...

We spent one night at Asunaro in August 2016. This was our first ryokan of our trip out of the 5 we stayed in and is was a very nice experience. We had booked a room with private bathroom and toilet and it was really comfortable and of good size and a nice sitting area by the windows and all...

I have never been to a 'Ryokan', so I cannot compare but i really like the place. It was close to the train station so it was a short 8 minute walk and it was 8 minutes to the center of town. The main part of the hotel was old and had great character, large beams, wooden floors and great...

First off, don't be concerned when you walk through the adjacent streets finding the Ryokan Asunaro for the first time. The area seems dead and uneventful, but you are close to everything. Location: Close enough to walk to easily from the train station with luggage, walk to every site and restaurant Takayama has to offer, and walk back to during...
