Again choose this ryokan on reviews and price. As Lonely Planets suggests it is good a ryokan to pick to get the experience without the large expense. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Food was good. Onsen was clean and fun. Room was quite large and clean. We spent two nights there.

A lovely, relaxing place to stay when visiting the Japanese Alps. Your welcome is warm, the facilities are clean and comfortable and the food is sublime. The Onsen is very relaxing, and pretty much every need is catered for with a morning coffee point, massage chairs and local information easily available. The rooms are smart and uncomplicated in the traditional...

We stayed in May for 2 nights. Overall it was a good stay. Room was big enough with a comfortable bed. The place is quite big and well run by lots of Japanese staff. Pros: although 20min from the station it is actually very close to things to see. Price was reasonable. Public bath was clean and reasonable size. Cons:...

We stayed in a charming traditional-style room with a nice view of the town as part of our honeymoon holiday in Japan. It was clean and comfortable (though the walls could do with a fresh coat of paint) and had a private toilet attached. A nice, well-maintained and clean onsen in the basement of the inn was a bonus. Well...

I recently stayed one night at the Yamakyu Ryokan on a 2 week trip around Japan. As a solo traveller, I was finding other Ryokan very expensive when researching my trip. However I was staying over in Takayama, and Yamakyu has a single room rate. Yamakyu is delightful and a charming way to experience a Ryokan in Japan. The tatami...

We stayed here for two nights and we loved it. Not fancy, however simple and clean. Loved sleeping on the tatami floors with comfortable futons. The onsen was simple and elegant. Enjoyed slipping into a yukata after bathing. It's a different world after a bath in the onsen. The breakfast and dinners were outstanding. It would be difficult to match the...

As budget travelers we were searching for a reasonable price ryokan and Yamakyu was our best choice to have the japanese experience. Maybe you can chose another luxurious ryokan, but this one is really authentical. First of all, we arrived at Bus station in Takayama and they picked us up just in time. At Yamakyu they welcomed us with tea...

We stayed three nights at this Ryokan, wanting to experience traditional Japan. A young man picked us up at the train station and took us to the hotel. The staff all were exceptional, the room large enough (there is no furniture to take up space), and the onsen was very clean and pleasant. I had it to myself both times...

Spring Takayama Festival was in rain. We arrived at about 12:00 at a view point, We saw the beautiful Takayama, and went to the central city. We took the hotel in Yamakyu. We could eat much at dinner and breakfast. Oishi katta!
