We loved our time at the rickshaw. As they do a great job catering to foreigners, their occupancy is way down still in June due to post earthquake anxiety stress (P.E.A.s). As such was a great time to be here as we had place to ourselves. Ditto it seemed for the whole town yet spectacular time of year with sun...

My daughter and I stayed at here for the Spring festival in April, only weeks after the earthquake and tsunami. We were enthusiastically welcomed as many travellers had cancelled their plans. Our room was large, clean, quiet and comfortable with en suite facilities and soft bedding on the tatami mat floor. The kitchen provided everything to self cater but with...

We stayed here for 3 nights after our group tour ended in Kyoto. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Takayama. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The room was roomy and exceptionally clean. As a bonus it has a great "living room" with comfortable couches and a great selection of reading materials. Also a microwave and...

We stayed at the Rickshaw Inn for 2 nights on a 15 day trip to Japan. We had a little difficulty finding the inn and I'd recommend a better map than the one we had. It really is very easy once you know where to go. We were warmly welcomed and shown our Japanese style room which was lovely. There...

This was a great place to stay, more Japanese than an ordinary B&B, but not a full blown ryokan either. You can choose whether to stay in a traditional Japanese room, as we did, with very comfortable mattresses on tatami mats and blissfully soft eiderdowns, cotton robes, slippers, a low table and floor cushions (and a heater, very welcome given...

The welcome snacks were unforgetable, still cannot find them on any market until we leaved Japan end of that month. We stay in "Bamboo" room and it's flawless in every aspect, specially if you been going everywhere in Japan. Although they are more expensive than other but every penny well spend for what we got. The environment at the inn...

This hotel is an excellent, no-frills place to explore Takayama. The location is great, walking distance from all the major sights in town. The front desk staff is super helpful with maps and suggestions, and really make you feel welcome. Room: The room was spartan, but very cute. A traditional-style Japanese room with tatami floors, a table and a pair...

Lovely place: very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room (we stayed in the traditional Japanese room with ensuite bathroom), free internet (had own laptop), very clean, good location. The guest lounge very cozy and comfortable with a small kitchen attached. It rained in Takayama while we were there, but we were quite happy to take time out from sightseening and...

Two years ago, my wife and I booked a room at the Richshaw Inn. We even made a special request that we have to arrive very late at night so someone has to stay up late for us. However our flight from the US got delayed, causing us to miss to the last train to Takayama. It was a no-show...

I can thorughly recommend this ryokan. The family that manage it are charming and friendly. The rooms while not totally traditional have a good measure of ryokan style and were quite large with excellent facilites. Very comfortable, quiet and clean and a good mountain view outside our window. Any travel tips or advice the staff were only happy to provide...
