The ryokan is situated by the side of the old town at a very convenient location to explore Takayama area. We drove to the hotel and the staff helped us to park the car and brought our luggage to room. Hospitality is excellant. Our room is huge, very comfortable with good views of the town. We had dinner and breakfast... More

We visited this hotel whilst on honeymoon in Japan and of all our stops this place was our favourite-asides from the traditional Ryokan style lodging the staff were second to none for their hospitality.A special mention to Taeko Nakai who served us on our first evening during a fantastic eight course traditional meal as well as breakfast and afternoon tea-she... Service was top notch. From the moment we stepped out from Takayama Station ( we used the Hida Ltd. Exp. Wide View from Nagoya, amazing views ) we handed our luggage to the hotel shuttle before boarding a bus to Shirakawa-go. Then when we arrived late evening at Takayama Station again, the hotel shuttle was already waiting for us. It's... More

I have went to many different hotels and countries including japan in my fortunate journey, however this hotel is above outstanding for reasons: FOOD Beyond our expectation, it is served in traditional Japanese way. The food is all fresh and well picked for the occasion and season. SERVICE ( ROOM) We payed a Room for 2 person, however the Room... More

We stayed at the Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan for 3 nights to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We stayed in a deluxe room with a private semi open air soaking bath. This is the first ryokan we have stayed at and we were extremely happy with our stay. Service was fantastic and impeccable from the time they met us at the... More

This Ryokan is in a modern building, but as soon as you step inside the decor is pure Japanese-tatami mat flooring, paper screens and lovely hot spring baths. Rooms are spacious with en-suite bathrooms and flat screen TV's. The cuisine is Kaiseki style and in our opinion, best served in the private comfortable Japanese style individual dining rooms, rather than... More

Pros: great location a block away from the "old town"; wonderful, authentic Japanese dining experiences; large, comfortable room (ours was Western style); excellent service. Cons: very expensive (but dinner is included as well as breakfast).

We stayed in one of the larger deluxe rooms. It was one of the best and most unique hotels I've ever stayed at. The hospitality we received was top notch, even for Japan. They went above and beyond to accommodate us being English-speaking Americans. Chiro spoke excellent English and had a wonderful sense of humor, but we didn't have trouble... More

the location is close to the old town. We couldn't get the same room for both nights. on the first night we were given a so called smaller room ( which for 2 adults and a toddler was just nice), the next night we moved to a bigger room, which cost much more. The similar price elsewhere we would've gotten... More

At this price level one may expect more than just friendly and humble Japanese device. The building, facilities and bathrooms are outdated, smelly and generally substandard. The Japanese food was okay but nothing special and definitely not worth the premium pricing.
