An experience not to be missed is to go out horse-riding led by an experienced gaucho -no worries for absolute beginners- and returning to the Estancia as the sunset lit the plains and gentle hills in magenta against a darkening blue sky. Then, to unsaddle the horse under stars already beginning to twinkle and going for an excellent dinner in...

Estancia Finca Piedra has everything that makes life amazing. Get this place soon before the secret is out. My only regret is that I didn't stay much, much longer. My advise: go, go, go! Meals. The freshness and selection of the three meals and afternoon treats provided by the excellent cook exceeded my expectations. I could not have asked any...

This is actually a 4.5 star review. Our family had a terrific stay at this lovely estancia over the Christmas holidays. With views of the vineyard, hills, and farm buildings from the infinity pool and deck at the lodge were unbeatable. We all loved the trail rides around the vast fields and nearby park land. The horses were well conditioned...

A lovely quiet location about 2 hours drive from Montevideo. The food was great especially as I am vegetarian, a rarity in Uruguay, and a real effort was made a real effort to cater for me. The wine was also excellent from the estancia's own vineyards, delicious and very reasonably priced. I also had several lovely quiet rides out in...

But seeing as you can't give a 3.5 I'll round it up to a 4. First thing I would say is that I totally disagree with previous reviewers that you will "feel like a real gaucho". Going on a horse trek through a vineyard and getting a tour of an animal farm does not a gaucho make! But I'm presuming...

I was traveling with friends this past thanksgiving week and we stayed at the Finca Piedra. We arrived full of excitement and left in love with this Estancia. Sandrine and Jason are the proprietors and they were incredible. This place has it all- a vineyard that produces a Syrah I am obsessed with, settled into an amazing country side where...

Finca Piedra is a very nice estancia in the countryside of Uruguay.Owners Sandrine and Jason together run the farm, winery and guesthouse. I've spend a couple of days horse riding and mountain biking in this place as a quiet intermezzo between visits to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. Very much enjoyed the life on the farm and the beautiful...

Having covered some great places along random international vacations I gladly share this under-advertised gem in the Uruguayan 'campo'. On route from BA to Jose Ignacio our group found ourselves in the warm embrace of Estancia Finca Piedra. My travel planning tends toward an easy devolution from fast paced to totally chill and this was the absolute perfect transition between...

We had a rough trip down to South America with two flight cancellations and a long delay on the flight that eventually got us there. Our first day was in BA where it rained all day, so it wasn't the greatest start to a vacation. Then we went to Estancia Finca Piedra and our vacation began! We stayed two nights...

Expanding over 1000 hectares in Mahoma hills, Finca Piedra reveals the authentic Uruguayan country life with the sophisticated European style. It is located only 125 km from Montevideo (with direct access by bus) and 110 km from Colonia. Its convenient location allows access from Buenos Aires in just two and a half hours. Finca Piedra offers comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms, decorated in traditional style and set according to the building where they are located. Wi-fi access is available free of charge in all of the common areas of the estancia. Our Franco-Uruguayan kitchen team prepares delicious meals boasting the best flavors from both cultures. At Finca Piedra we offer a wide variety of free and guided activities so everybody can enjoy each moment at their own pace. Whether on horseback, carriage, walking or biking, you will marvel at the surrounding natural landscapes: the Mahoma hills natural reserve, our 20 hectares of vineyards, La Coronilla stream and the "lakes". You'll be able to observe the rich bird life and flora during these outings. We also offer special activities for children such as participating in the milking of the cow, tours of our animal farm, a games room with amenities such as a ping-pong table, foosball, a pool table and a trampoline, a bocce ball court, a volleyball court, a football field, a racquetball court and of course our outside pool with vineyard views. ... more   less
