Nice hotel in extensive, lush gardens. Lovely to see - and hear - the Colobus monkeys and to be visited by an ostrich and zebras. Not sure about the crocodile and porcupines in enclosures though. The owners are very committed to the guests's experience and went out of their way to make up for "errors" by staff. Took the guided...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a positive review. I totally agree with you about the crocodile and porcupines. You maybe happy to hear that they are being relocated to a large wildlife sanctuary in southern Tanzania. We hope to see you again someday.

Our expectations were not very high having read earlier reviews, but what a misconception that was! The lodge and wildlife sanctuary are now back in the hands of the family that started it back in 1959, as of January 2016. Zummi, the manager is the 3rd generation and the large investments in upgrading the entire lodge are ongoing. We extended...

Both an animal sanctuary and living sanctuary, this property will offer you something few others will. It is the oldest property in Arusha and has been family owned from the beginning. Now run by Zummi, who is the owner, there are upgrades and enhancements being made to the property, all for the guest's enjoyment. As you sit on the beautiful...

We arrived at kilimanjaro airport with nowhere booked. The place we had intended to stay was fully booked. How Lucky as our driver took us to Mount Meru Game Lodge. We had a great welcome from Zummi and his very friendly and efficient staff, enjoyed a comfortable, well appointed cottage overlooked by wonderful old trees next to the small sanctuary...

Thank you so much to Zummi, Zoe and the amazing team at the Mount Meru Game Lodge. The owners have recently taken over this lodge again and have made into one of the only true boutique lodges in Arusha. Attention to detail, great service, healthy meals, rooms with a view.... And this all 25 minutes away from Kilimanjaro airport. This...

Beautiful lake and wildlife sanctuary with zebras, crowned cranes, yellow-billed stork and ostrich all coming near to the small lake. From here we sat and drank tea or beer, watching the colobus and macaque monkeys overhead. Very friendly staff, food and accommodation great. Definitely go again if I can. Don’t miss the home-made ice cream.

The Mount Meru Game Lodge Sanctuary is ideally situated; it is very close to the airport , main road and Usa River. Despite being so convenient it is incredibly quiet and peaceful. My wife and I spent two nights at Mount Meru Game Lodge, one at either end of our 9-day Kilimanjaro trek. We found the lodge ideal and perfect in every way. It is located less than 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), with its accommodation units spread around a beautifully maintained garden along the shore of a small man-made lake....

Thank you for your feed back. Since your stay at the Mount Meru Game Lodge, the lodge has been taken over by the family (it was rented out for 12 years) as we felt it needed some tender loving care. The Lodge is now back in family hands and we have already refurbished our rooms and the main lodge building....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary is located within 33 acres of mature, well manicured gardens bounded on one side by the tranquil waters of the Usa River and on the other by the private Sanctuary where our wildlife and birdlife reside. This wildlife and birdlife provide many of our guests with their first exciting game viewing experience. The Mount Meru Game Sanctuary was established in 1960 and over the course of the last half a century and more has received rescued animals from the wild. Normally either injured or orphaned, the sanctuary's first priority is always to rehabilitate these animals and to return them to their natural habitat. In cases where this is not possible, they are released into the sanctuary grounds where, joined by an enormous variety of birdlife, they are able to enjoy the unique freedom offered by our very safe environment. By choosing to stay with us, our guests play a very important role in helping these animals since the activities of the sanctuary are financed entirely by the lodge. Mount Meru Game Lodge is extremely fortunate to receive daily visits from troops of Black & White Colobus Monkeys. The Lodge features 15 guestrooms, including 2 suites, which seamlessly blend understated elegance with contemporary style. Our two suites lie generously situated in the garden overlooking the sanctuary. Each with a cozy bedroom and open living area, complete with fireplace. Both rooms offer a private garden gazebo where one can blissfully relax and soak up an atmosphere of well being. The main building of the lodge consists of a reception area, lounge and bar. The lounge, with its enormous picture windows and comfortable furniture, provides for relaxation in intimate surroundings. The bar is well stocked with a wide selection of spirits, beers and minerals which are complemented by a carefully selected collection of wines. To the front of the main building is a terrace which is shaded by enormous old Mango trees and which enjoys magnificent views over mature, carefully tended gardens to the Sanctuary beyond. In the grounds of the lodge can be found an 'outdoor dining room' which consists of a covered makuti restaurant located in our mature a gardens. The garden with its camp fire allows our guests to dine under the African star-lit sky whilst listening to the exotic night sounds. FREE WiFi is available to all visitors in the Lodges' public areas. Throughout its long history, the lodge & sanctuary have been a popular stop over for many VIP's and Government visitors. Various Presidents of African countries, celebrities, entrepreneurs and members of European Royal families have stayed with us. ... more   less
