This is a family fun place. It's owner, Zumi is a wonderful guy who knows the area well since he was born and raised here. While this Lodge is just off the busy tarmac road it is tucked into a small, quiet corner that abuts the Arusha National Park which draws wild life onto the property. Terrace eating is a...

I am glad to read that you enjoyed the lodge. Thank you for taking the time to leaving us a review. Unfortunately we no longer have the Shanga Shop, there just wasn't enough business to sustain the workshop and shop, that said, all the staff are still employed by Shanga and are now working at the Shanga workshop in town.

Arrived late at Tanzania Airport and this lodge was about 40 minute drive so a great first night stop prior to starting a safari. Would not personally recommend as a safari hotel as too far from the parks

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. You are absolutely right, we are not a safari hotel as we are located two and a half hours from the parks (unless your going to Arusha National Park, which is 15 minutes away). We are ideally suited...

Spent a night here to escape from Arusha, and it certainly is a peaceful haven. The rooms were good, the staff were excellent, and the attentiveness of the actual manager was a refreshing change. It is rather too close to the main road and traffic noise for my liking, but this was not a major problem. Evening meal was good,...

Watched Zebra, Ostrich and Crested Cranes from my veranda while monkeys played on the roof. It was all brilliant with smiling helpful staff, excellent food, comfortable, peaceful, bungalow and the best sheets in Tanzania. The perfect place to begin a safari. Hermione S.

The hotel is right next to a river and by a sanctuary. You can see animals from your hotel lawns itself. The rooms are nice and while not very big are very comfortable and remind you of colonial comforts. The service and food is good and the staff is very friendly. They also have a crocodile and tortoise enclosure within...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your lunch. Yes, you are absolutely right, it takes a little while to get the good prepared, its simply because we cook everything fresh. On the list of animals in the reserve, we can now add water buffalo. Karibu sana anytime

Could not have been better! Clean, comfortable, quiet. Close to airports. Great food and staff. Wildlife, walking tour of a local village. We will definitely visit again upon our next trip East! What a delightful place..

Beautiful nice property, in the heart of a the wilds. But, recommended only if you plan to want to stay away from the rest of the world. They have zebras, ostrich, monkeys, a lazy crocodile. Good for photography. But no Wifi in rooms, No TV.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. I am glad to hear that you found our property beautiful and ''away from the rest of the world''. We are defiantly not a city hotel and probably not the best location if you plan to conduct business in Arusha town on a daily basis. We are located 30...

As first time travelers to Tanzania, we were not sure what to expect with accommodations. This made our stay at Mount Meru Game Lodge and Sanctuary even more delightful. Our trip was two fold: to meet a child we had sponsored for 13 years for the first time, and to then enjoy a safari. Our first stay was to be...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary is located within 33 acres of mature, well manicured gardens bounded on one side by the tranquil waters of the Usa River and on the other by the private Sanctuary where our wildlife and birdlife reside. This wildlife and birdlife provide many of our guests with their first exciting game viewing experience. The Mount Meru Game Sanctuary was established in 1960 and over the course of the last half a century and more has received rescued animals from the wild. Normally either injured or orphaned, the sanctuary's first priority is always to rehabilitate these animals and to return them to their natural habitat. In cases where this is not possible, they are released into the sanctuary grounds where, joined by an enormous variety of birdlife, they are able to enjoy the unique freedom offered by our very safe environment. By choosing to stay with us, our guests play a very important role in helping these animals since the activities of the sanctuary are financed entirely by the lodge. Mount Meru Game Lodge is extremely fortunate to receive daily visits from troops of Black & White Colobus Monkeys. The Lodge features 15 guestrooms, including 2 suites, which seamlessly blend understated elegance with contemporary style. Our two suites lie generously situated in the garden overlooking the sanctuary. Each with a cozy bedroom and open living area, complete with fireplace. Both rooms offer a private garden gazebo where one can blissfully relax and soak up an atmosphere of well being. The main building of the lodge consists of a reception area, lounge and bar. The lounge, with its enormous picture windows and comfortable furniture, provides for relaxation in intimate surroundings. The bar is well stocked with a wide selection of spirits, beers and minerals which are complemented by a carefully selected collection of wines. To the front of the main building is a terrace which is shaded by enormous old Mango trees and which enjoys magnificent views over mature, carefully tended gardens to the Sanctuary beyond. In the grounds of the lodge can be found an 'outdoor dining room' which consists of a covered makuti restaurant located in our mature a gardens. The garden with its camp fire allows our guests to dine under the African star-lit sky whilst listening to the exotic night sounds. FREE WiFi is available to all visitors in the Lodges' public areas. Throughout its long history, the lodge & sanctuary have been a popular stop over for many VIP's and Government visitors. Various Presidents of African countries, celebrities, entrepreneurs and members of European Royal families have stayed with us. ... more   less
