I chose this lodge because I wanted our first night "on safari" to be green and natural...not a city gated compound. Within 15 minutes of checking in we were informed that you could see elephants from the observation platform. We stayed in room 12 with two bedrooms. Its location near Arusha National Park's Ngongongare Gate, quiet ambience, and reasonable cost make Meru Mbega Lodge an outstanding choice for park visitors. This hotel is NOT in Arusha, like most other hotels you stay in during your first or last night of the trip. It's about 30min-1hr from Arusha, and it's in the wilderness area right near Arusha Natioanal Park. This is why the hotel gardens are teeming with exotic birds and some wildlife.
