I was quarantined here and experienced the worst that can be expected. Sending a letter took them long time and when called, they spoke as I have done some mistake. If you are selecting this, think twice about your dessition.
Absolutely horrible stay! I arrived around midnight, gate was locked, I rang the bell and was waiting for about 5 mins, no answer. Called their landline and after many rings it was answered. Took them another 5 mins to open the gate. The room was a decent size, very basic. I had Dengue in December after staying in a hotel in Colombo and was in hospital for 5 days. The room was full of mosquitoes and flies. I killed 3 flies and a few mosquitoes myself. I called the hotel asking for a different room and I was told they have a double room available but I have to pay extra for it. I told them that I didn’t want an “upgrade”, that I just a similar room to what I have booked minus the mosquitoes. He said if I wanted a room with a mosquito net, that too will be an extra charge. They refused for me to move and send a mosquito repellent to the room. It was a repellent that you plug in and it did nothing. I wrapped myself in the sheet, put the extra towel over my feet and added the two pillows on top of that to make sure no mosquitoes get In. stayed up the whole night as I was terrified, finally fell asleep around 4 30am and was woken up by around 6am from the noise outside of people checking out and having breakfast. It was extremely noisy. The owners were not helpful at all even though I had mentioned that I was terrified of the mosquitoes and didn’t want to stay in the room as I can’t afford to get sick. Horrible place with horrible owners. Do not recommend this place. Like I said, if you want to get some sort of misquote related virus, this is definitely the place to go!…
Excellent food and service. Extremely clean rooms. Located just few minutes from the Negombo Beach which is Negambo”s main tourist attraction. Walking distance to all restaurants, pubs, shops ect.. Although there are so many restaurants near by, once you try Judith’s food you will always eat at Suriya Arana!!
Our one-night stay at Suriya Arana was a bit strange. The place is nice and somewhat posh, in a quiet back street. The small pool was very nice. The food cooked for us (dinner and breakfast) was excellent. But there were also some negative things. The room we booked (a duplex room, with rooms on two floors with stairs in between) was no longer available, and we were given a "family room" instead which was smaller and had only one double bed and one single bed. We are a family of four so naturally that was a bit cramped, but they insisted we had to pay the same price. Also, there was a difference in the prices in the printed menu we were shown, and the prices we were told, which were higher. There was a fridge with drinks and water, but the water was outrageously expensive (170 rupees - that is just unnecessary). Also there was some recorating going on in the building which meant that there was a lot of noise all day, and people working going in and out past the pool all the time. The gate to the street was also open because of the workers, which meant everyone walking past could look straight into the pool and us swimming there, which was not so relaxing. There was laundry hanging out everywhere in the garden area by the pool where we came to swim and relax. Overall, we were kind of given the feeling we were in the way and should not be there. It was an OK last place to spend the night in Negombo, but not at all matching the raving reveiws we had read. …
Judith and Saman will welcome you warmly! The guesthouse is pretty well situated and very calm. The infrastructures are from high standing and the nice swimmingpool will refresh you at any time of the day. The beds are confortable and on top of that, the food is excellent, from breakfast to dinner on the pool side. The owners can organize perfectly a driver whome will drive you around the country at your own pace, showing you the best places whatsoever. Thank you Judith and Saman for your smiles and very good advices throughout our stay in Sri Lanka. We feel very sorry of what happened during April 2019 and we cross fingers so that business will go on soon again. Kind regards from Switzerland :-)
