A really beautiful renovation of an iconic colonial hotel. Room outstanding. Lobby and verandah area worth a detour ( and used by loads of non residents which makes for congestion). Pool serene. Incomprehensible staff assignments so several people ask your order then forget to pass on this info while you wait. Unbelievably slow and erratic service results. A minor irritant...

We had an altogether great lunch here...food was good, wine was excellent, service was friendly and professional. It was a lovely stop during our self-guided walking tour of Galle and gem buying excursion!

I'd like to start by saying that I can't understand, for the life of me, why so many people are trying to trash this first rate, uber-luxurious hotel. I've been lucky enough to enjoy stays in a lot of 5 star accommodations, and I have to say that Amangalla was amongst the top 3 in terms of service, cleanliness, attention...

We spent three nights there. Very comfortable and large room/bathroom. The bath products were very good quality. Our butler Indika took exceptionally good care of us. The men who cleaned the room were always available. Spent mornings at the pool observing the lone iguana. Very nice library. Had drinks and high tea on the third floor overlooking the rooftops. Very...

This place is extremely expensive and not worth it. The noise level from the nearby mosque was constant at night. The bath products were awful. I felt ripped off from the moment we entered this pretentious establishment. The food was mixed, depending on the meal. The security was strangely lax. I would not recommend this place. It is overrated and...

The Aman experience was first rate. We stayed in a family suite which was HUGE! We found the service and attention to detail absolutely first class and would love to return. Location in Galle Fort was excellent so very easy to just head out and potter around the area and explore. The sun leaves the pool area quite early in...

Amagalle is 'the' luxurious colonial establishment to visit or stay in in Galle. It is far from inexpensive but we always choose to dine here when in Galle Fort. It is the place where one can soak in the atmosphere of the Dutch and colonial buildings whilst enjoying food and drinks on the lovely terrace adjacent to the street. In...

we had the most blissful stay at Amangalla and felt totally spoilt. We were very lucky to be given Room 33 which was extremely spacious and light. The food was excellent ...I especially loved the scones with strawberry jam. The staff could not have been more helpful and each evening we dined in a different area. On our last night...

glorious property sympathetically restored and well maintained. Would rate it as a good hotel rather than average, and it is the only place to stay in Galle fort. But 5 star it isn't! Management is slack, attention to detail poor -apart from housekeeping, and the food variable and disappointing...few local or even Asian dishes apart from one curry daily plus...

Uh..so remember all that Colonial stuff that went on years back, English wealth in rare and outstanding new colonies.. Well this Hotel is a taste of the extremes of English pomp and display in the heart of the lands that made so many Englishmen wealth. Just to step inside the lobby or use the lobby washrooms is a highlight! Inside...
