I highly recommend Villa Surf Beach in Dewata/Galle. I returned to Sri Lanka and I needed the right balance between ocean views, access to surfing, peace, relaxation, friendliness and a fair price that allowed me not to spend to much. It’s a great places for solo travels, families and future adventure seekers. The price for quarantine is one of the best deals I’ve found in my research. The rooms are spacious and the balconies offer an excellent view of the ocean. There is direct beach access. The staff was lovely very professional and attentive. I felt very safe and cared for during my quarantine here.
Perfect for young travelers, so read further if it titles you, otherwise my review might be not as relevant. Gave it 5 out of 5 because of 3 reasons: 1. It's clean. For me that's the most important thing in a guest house/hotel. Can't say it was sparkling clean, but i felt more then comfortable to use everything given by the hotel. Not saying I'm hard to satisfy in this field, but they got the basics more than right! 2. The staff. That was probably what made this place so good. Came here with a friend, and unfortunately we had to go to the hospital few times. The lady in the counter helped us so much, she arranged everything for us, even a tuk tuk driver that guided us in the hospital (mostly in terms of translation). Had the pleasure of meeting the owner, very nice, very professional, also helped a lot with the hospital situation. The two guys who work mostly at nights are great as well, invited us to the Saturday party, and had real good vibe. 3. Surfing location. It couldn't be closer to the beach. The wave is perfect for beginners and though i didn't try the surfing lessons, my friends did, and they said it was great! The only "bad" thing i can say about the place is that they had a problem with the Wi-Fi, which was quite annoying. Planned to stay for one night, ended up staying 4 nights, highly recommended place! P.s - don't be cheap and ask for the rooms with view to the beach, it's a massive improvement.…
Let me start off by saying how great and humble the staff was. They made my stay amazing and they made sure that I'm at home. In the evening you could see the sun going down, a chill beer would take your heart to another planet. you can see the entire beach from left to right and It is truly amazing. I couldn't have much food at the hotel as I wanted to travel to see the neighboring food shops as there were many and all the places I went It was good. Overall if your soul purpose is to surf this will be an amazing place to stay. I highly recommend it.
The hostel/hotel is run by a friendly and helpful group of people. This accommodation is on the beach and the restaurant serves lovely food- recommend the fish platter... everyone was more than willing to help especially when the power went out on the day of our arrival and when we had trouble with the WiFi. This place is only a short taxi ride away from the fort, and is easy to reach being next to a busy road. Ideal for travellers wanting to surf and relax...
As with any online transaction, it's buyer beware. The only things going for this place the staff & the fact it's literally on the beach! The hotel is on the main road which equals continuous noise & the call to prayer (particularly the pre-dawn one) will disturb you. Facilities are basic. The ONLY air conditioning is in bedrooms which means the family room (which cops the afternoon sun) is unbearable. Curtains also either don't close completely, or provide no blackout. There are also NO mosquito nets as advertised. The owner told me that's because there are none! I would not pay more than $20AUD/double or $30/family rooms.
