We have stayed 3 nights and did two days of diving. The place is a bit out of Maumere town, but not really hard to get to using a Bemo or even a taxi. We did take a bungalow with AC and hot water, which was nice and spacious and we enjoyed it. The property overall is well help and quite large and has a dive shop on the ground. Besides diving you can enjoy the sun with a beer from the bar. The good thing is its really not in any packed area, thus you have a really relaxing atmosphere, which we needed for a couple of days. They really good thing for us was, that the diving at the outside of the Ankermi bay was much better than we hoped for. Pristine koral, lots of fish, including quite some sharks, napoleons, we have been very happy. Be prepared though for a laid back operation with a local fishing boat, which is quite loud and very slow, but it was not an issue for us. The thing which was a bit annoying was the kitchen, which did work really quite slow and was somehow not reliable (one day there was no fish, neither chicken so we were left with mie goreng with vegies:). Note that the beach directly at the resort is quite rocky and a sandy beach a short walk away is a bit messy with plastic and trash. Yet all in all a great place to relax and lay back, relax and dive.
Little paradise! Blessed we’ve found this place! Will def come back! Everything is just perfect here, but don’t expect a 5* hotel or something. Basics is just perfect tho. Food was nice. Reservation runs smoothly.
Ankermi is a very nice place to relax and dive! We did some shore and reef dives and it was amazing. Thanks Kermi to show us a lot of stuff and share with us his knowledges about marine life. See you soon for making bubble again!
I spent 4 days there, and it's a lovely place with a great team that do everything to help you (they spent hours fixing a SIM card issue that I had). The employees are young and nice people, managed by Kermi who's also the dive master if you plan to dive.
Quite isolated place (Wodong/ Maumere is not Labuan Bajo), so you will need a simcard if you want to have internet, be prepared.
We came to Ankermi on the recommendation of a friend of ours, that has spent one week there several years ago. The room we booked was a “sea view bungalow” w/ fan. And, well, that’s what we got: a nice little bungalow in the (mostly) traditional style with enough room for a double bed (mosquito net there) and some space for your luggage. As it is quite openly built and the whole area has lots of palmtrees on it, even after a hot day you’re not going to sweat at night. The en-suite Open Air bathroom was good, all the rooms were cleaned neatly every day. The diving was very nice, especially the dive at the “house reef” and the ship wreck that lies very close to the dive center are really nice, for novice divers it’s probably the easiest way to do a proper wreck dive. The only downside of the diving is the diving boat, which is equipped with two open-exhaust Diesel engines —> it is as loud as you imagine. But, as the boss puts it: it’s the dive centers and, indirectly your contribution as a diver to the local people and a rare occasion for them to directly participate in tourism around Maumere. If we were not diving or doing sightseeing trips to Kelimutu Crater Lakes, we would eventually spend most of our time by the beach bar that lies beautifully next to the dive centers own jetty. Actually, most guests also took their breakfast as well as their dinner there. Now we reached the one point that lead some commenters before me to pretty harsh judgements: catering and service. Let me make the long story short: despite being “only” 24 km away from a rather large city, you shouldn’t expect a perfect supply of everything that is on the menu at any given time. Neither should you expect to see a large, professionally run restaurant that provides each and every dish at any time of the day within minutes in perfect quality. The food we ordered was good and we really liked it a lot. It just takes its time to be made freshly by the staff, that seemingly is very hard to find and keep. So you rather should be hanging out at the bar and having one of the excellent arak cocktails while enjoying the perfect sunset instead of complaining about the “bad service”...

"The cheaper backpackers' room can be hot and is situated next to the staffing quarters and pump engines."
