On the plus side, the fact that this hotel is at the south end of the ghat strip means that it is accessible by car. Also, the building has a nice feel inside, tastefully decorated and clean. BUT (pay attention manager and staff!) - the hotel has a LONG way to go in giving the customer a pleasant experience. Staff...

I stayed with my family at this hotel for one night. I had done the bookings through Make my trip. The hotel is highly overpriced- both in terms of the room and the food. Even water is not provided in the room, a bottle of water from the minibar costs Rs 70! Worst is yet to come- I was not...

The front of the hotel overlooks a busy car park. The view from the rooftop does give a good view of the end of the town but you can see nothing of the main river frontage of the town. The room itsself is very basic and small. there are no tea and coffee making facilities, no room safe and a...

Lovely heritage hotel with excellent staff. We had a dawn boat ride the next day so the location of the hotel was really advantageous. In the afternoon we took a nice stroll along the ghats which is something you could not do at whim if you were staying in the Cantonment area (where all the major hotels are). Hotel manager...

Good choice if you want to be on the Ganges near the Ghats. It is clean and comfortable, and certainly the public areas and our room were much better than suggested in some of the older reports. They appear to be renovating the hotel, and doing it to a good standard. Our room (Punjab, 208) was a good size, nicely...

We stayed here for 2 nights in November 2012. Great location right on Assi Ghat which gives you the option of walking the length of the other ghats to explore. Lovely first impressions from the staff by giving us a well needed free drink when we arrived and a flower garland. We were given a choice of two rooms, both...

Stayed for 5 nights. Great location, just a 30 second walk to Assi Ghat. We stayed in the Jodhpur room, which was beautiful, although the only window looked at a cement wall only 2 feet away. The room was clean, with good hot water. The restaurant was also pricey, and we found better priced and better quality food only a...

I frequent this hotel several times a year and have grown to love it. It is one of the best options along the river, and is clean and comfortable by most standards. It is the quietest hotel I've stayed in in Varanasi (if you stay away from the entrance/lobby area), and the staff is courteous and quickly attends to any...

This place is about location. It is near one of the first Ghats. You can also rent a boat here where someone will row you all around the ghats. Surprisenly the boy didnt not ask a lot of money for all this work. It is also nice to see varanasi and the ghats via the water. You can walk from...

I stayed here for five nights in January 2011. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The rooms were fine - I changed rooms in the middle since the hotel wanted to give me a 'better' room. The restaurant was reliable for very good, nicely presented food, but it is served in Jain fashion. This means much less spices (for example no...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Palace on Ganges is a new, immaculately clean hotel with 22 rooms, each named for -- and said to be decorated in the style of -- a different region of India. Our rooms were good-sized and well appointed (cable TV sets, non-alcholic mini-bar, tables and chairs). The staff is friendly and attentive. Food is vegetarian and well prepared. The big advantage is Palce on Ganges's location. It is at Asi Ghat, And while it's "on the Ganges," a small road and a large where you can get the cab easily from just out of the hotel. Views of the Ganges from the balcony -- and rooms facing the river -- are far less good than those from, among others hotels. Disadvantages: not all rooms face the river. ... more   less
