After 3 months travel in India this year, I can honestly say that this is the cleanest place I have been. Helping hosts, convenient to shops & bus and amazingly quiet (except for the barkin' dog) & cute kids.
We arrived in Kochi to find our original booking had to cancel due to an unexpected emergency. Mary Grace and husband Jolly came to pick us up, despite it being nearly 11pm and whisked us off to their spotlessly clean and comfortable home stay. The whole family made us feel welcome, location is great and good WiFi. We enjoyed their company, chatting and learning about Kerala but the star of the show has to be Mary Grace's cooking! We had a different breakfast every morning and each one was delicious! Mary Grace's son (only 10) is taking after his mother and gave us a sample of his great cooking too. She should definitely consider running a cooking class, I'd take it! Very genuine people who stand out in a sea of home stay options.
Spent 3 nights in this homestay. The family running it is the most welcoming and helpful. Rooms are large and spot clean, with comfortable bed, desk, well working WiFi and fan. There is also a small common area where you can enjoy the tasty breakfast, and a little balcony to sit and read. Really good for the price, I recommend it! The only thing to consider, it is a good half an hour walk from the main tourist sights of Fort Kochi and bus station. Still I liked the neighborhood, full of trees and quiet.
We had a wonderful time here over New Year and were made so welcome by this lovely family who included us in all the fun of their New Year celebrations with their family and friends. We arrived a day early and they sorted us out for the extra night with the help of a new homestay across the road. Their house is in a lane off one of the quieter streets in Kochi but within easy reach of the touristy area. Our rooms were simple and felt more spacious because there is a large shared landing where guests eat, with tables and chairs and a long balcony, good drying for clothes. Mary and her husband, Jolly, were great company and very helpful, sharing their local knowledge and recommendations further afield in South India. We highly recommend them.
We had a lovely stay at Mary's place. The rooms were clean and food was delicious. Mary and her family made us feel at home and did everything to make our life easier. A special mention to Mary's cooking, I think she is an excellent cook and would be a good teacher to learn southern Kerala cuisine. She also introduced us to Sudhir, who became our trusted person to transport us to nearby destinations. Mary's home is located in a quiet corner of Fort Kochi, ideal for long walks to the beach and strolls to Princess street and nearby locations. Highly recommended for travelers who like quiet, simple and home style lodgings.
