I had two of the most wonderful weeks of my life on this houseboat and a 7 days treck in the high mountains organised by the owner Ayub Shah. I felt ever so well taken care of. For me it was unbelievable. The atmosphere on the houseboat is ever so relaxing. Everything is very clean and well maintained (as I run a guest house myself, I know what I am talking about). Little pieces of Kashmiri art arrond the common area everywhere. Wonderfull wallnut carving and lovely books. The houseboat is situated a bit appart from other houseboats on Nigen Lake which makes it very attraktive for people looking for some peace a quiet moments. The garden is also nice and inviting for early morning streching and exercise. The home cooked food was very tasty. The warm welcome of the staff and the family made me feel quickly like a loved family member. I have to mention I was travelling alone as a single woman and was treated with lots of respect and care and no hasseling as I have sometimes experienced in other places. But I also saw that the same attention was given to other guests. The 7 day trek into the high mountains was extremly well organized and every messurement of safety was taken. One has to be fit to do it but the pace is ajusted to the physical capeability. As it was in the second half of September, nights were very cold but blankets and hot water bottles and hot tea were provided every night as well as plenty freshly cooked food from fresh vegatables, chicken and fish. However eventhough I was very lucky with the weather, if one plans to choose this kind of activity it might be wise to come in July or August. All in all it was not only an excellent vallue for money but also a very rewarding personal experience.
