As its name says it's a good chill hostel, nice air-conditioning, clean, and the personal is helpful and nice. I would remove the tvs (nobody use them anyway) and make an environment more suitable for socializing like a common diner.

I`m a Peace Corps volunteer living on the Caribbean coast and came to Cartagena for a break. I chose to stay in a different hostel from the typical PCV hostel since I dont like party hostels. I found Makako - it was half the price and right inside the walled city - I figured it was worth a try. The... More

If you look at other reviews on other websites, they're most likely fake to bump up the average score, which is what really annoys me the most about this place. The only redeeming factor here is the staff, who are mostly nice and try to be helpful. But here are some of the various problems: the lockers are right in... More

Booked one night and emailed to reserve a second night in another room. At check in they said that was no problem. Next day they said they didn't see it and we had no room. Honestly we were delighted as we were already looking at other hostels! Very dingy small bedrooms. Lockers are in reception and limited if you need... More

Really terrible AC in all dorms but one (you want great AC in Cartegena TRUST ME). Staff was very nice and the location was awesome but the hostel itself was not very nice and there wasn't much of a social vibe. The hostel itself was also run very poorly and we were asked to switch beds every day we were... More

i have to say I was not that impressed with this hostel. The staff was friendly but the place is kinda cramped and very hot. The AC in the middle room does not work well at all and the beds are incredibly creeky. Good price compared to others in the area, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Friendly staff. Great location. AC in a large communal area with TV, during the day. Free morning coffee. AC on from 7pm until the morning. But, thread bare sheets. Worn mattresses, sinking. Wobbly beds, kept getting woken up by the other person every time they move, and vice versa. Only 3 bathrooms for whole hostel, and toilets in same room... More

We stayed two nights at Makako and out of all the hostels we have stayed in during our trip of South America, this one would be ranked somewhere low. We booked here as it seemed reasonably priced for Cartagena and offered a kitchen which we hoped would save some money cooking rather than eating out. The kitchen is very basic,... More

Thanks to the staff of this hostel we had a great stay. This place is relatively cheap (private room for couple) and the location is great. Accommodation not very luxury but all you need is there. Staff is very welcoming and warm. Great atmosphere. Would totally recommend! Thank you chicas for everything!

Makako has a lot to improve to just be an average hostel. To define the hostel in a word, it would be: precarious. It's is very poor and no cozy at all. The only two bathrooms are for general use (men and women), the shower is awful (one of them is just a pipe), there's no toilet seat in one... More
