I stayed three nights at Fairmont in Chengdu this week, and it was a flawless experience from arrival until departure. I would particularly like to highlight the impeccable service provided by Adam at front-desk, consierge Aight and Rita and her team in the executive lounge. They are all incredibly service-minded, guest-oriented and friendly. The lounge team went beyond what I think one can expect in the hospitality industry, and I am very thankful. It is impressive how the executive lounge is able to uphold those standards over time. The room: Even if I arrived early (or maybe because of that), I enjoyed an upgrade to one of their corner suites with a spectacular view and all the amenities one can think of. As an example, I love the Fairmont Fit yoga mat - and they also have my favourite tea. Other in-house facilities: The gym is good, and I wish I could have returned to the «Cube - bar» on the 2nd floor (unfortunately closed due to a provate event when my friend and I tried, and the «Cube - lounge» on the 1st floor does not have the same atmosphere). We checked out the 43rd floor bar on my last night, and I think they have improved from my previous stay - in particular the bartender was great. The guests were very noisy, though - and I am still not entirely sure what the bar’s concept is. Plus for solid selection of gins and, as mentioned, the skilled and efficient bartender. And finally: Bread and pastries are really well baked and presented throughout the house. Rare in China, and therefore even more appreciated.

Well, we finally found the Fairmont experience! I asked my girlfriend which Fairmont she enjoyed the most and she said we had only stayed in one! From the moment we arrived, check in was seemless with a great welcoming from staff. They knew who we were and got to know us straight away. Everytime we entered the hotel all staff greeted us and asked about our day. The Fairmont good experience is definitely worth upgrading to. All staff made a great effort to ensure we had an excellent time and went above and beyond to ensure all requests were met. They even booked train tickets for us and advised us on travel options. The breakfast has a huge arrange of food to suit all and the lobby bar is nice to relax after a long day. The views are great from the hotel and the Fairmont lounge. The gym has enough equipment for a decent work out and the swimming pool is clean but a little small. Overall, if you want a Fairmont experience in China, this is the only hotel I’ve currently found outside of the Peace hotel, Shanghai.

Finally, I had the opportunity to return to Fairmont Chengdu and experience its Gold Lounge. At the lounge, the lovely afternoon tea set and happy hour session were great. If you are also a fan of spicy food, try out the special Chaoshou with spicy red sauce cooked by the young chef. The Lounge Team truly made my stay wonderful. Thank you to you all - Yi, Jeanne, Sandra, Evelyn, Flora and Sage.

What a great hotel , very modern and clean . Nice spacious rooms , clean with good views . The staff are friendly and kind and really attentive to your needs . However the service in the all day dining is slow and not so good . I had the Buffett dinner and I ordered some BBQ food which never came I asked several times for it and it still didn’t arrive so I gave up and just ate the ice cream . The next day I had the same issue at the breakfast which is the same places for again I eventually gave up. But as I said the staff are really nice . Anyway it’s a great hotel and really modern just don’t expect your BBQ to arrive hehehe.

After being helped by the Sofitel in Chengdu to move (don’t stay there this summer), I had an excellent stay at Fairmont. It was simply so good that I had to stay an additional night! I booked a room with Club access, and although I booked in very short notice, everything was perfectly prepared upon arrival. I had been given a beautiful corner room - I particularly enjoyed the bath-tub with a view - and also that everything was so well organized, including the walk-in closet. Sandra, Sage, Debby, Yi, Evelyn, Jean and Flora in the lounge delivered beyond expectation, remembered my favourite tea for all my visits and took really great care of me. I do not eat meat and on one occasion they even had the chef prepare a special fish meal for me! I would also like to compliment the kitchen/chef for their bread! That good bread is mostly hard to find in China. I also truly enjoyed the Cube bar on the 2nd floor at a couple of occasions - the bartender there was very helpful and attentive as well. My only disappointment was the hotel’s top floor bar. The bartender there tried to convince me they ONLY sold wine by the glass, not by bottle (he obviously meant the opposite - but how can you do that in a 5-star hotel?). And a shout-out to the guy who welcomed me up there also, with a «Do you want to sit inside or outside?» Me: «There’s an outside? Great!» Him: «No, only inside». Probably a language issue but generally, I did not find this bar to live up to the rest of the hotel’s standards. Finally, they also have a good gym, that I enjoyed twice. So - thank you for taking care of me in all aspects and making my Chengdu visit a good one!
