Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

For a one night stay this place was fine. Rooms are more akin to European private hostel rooms than hotel rooms but the bed was comfortable, shower had good water pressure and it was fairly clean. Breakfast was an extra 18rmb and really worth it. For the price there was a surprisingly good selection of Chinese style breakfast foods and fruit and yoghurt if you wanted something more Western.

The hotel chain itself is good enough, especially price wise. Very good beds and a basic but comfortable room with good service and a clean environment. Downside for this hotel in Datong is the out of town location. Not a lot of restaurant choice unless you speak a bit of Chinese. And staff in general was ok, but some gave me a feeling of being to much trouble to handle because of the language gap. Therefore I didn't feel too welcome here. In short, okay for Chinese guests, but a bit of a downer for foreigners.

Stayed at this Jinjiang Inn for 3 nights with a friend. Although it is outside the city walls (around 20 minutes walk) it is actually in an interesting part of town with a bustling market right outside the door and plenty of food options nearby. Having explored Datong for a weekend, I think we made a good choice, especially as the room rate was less than $20 for a twin room. It is also close to the No.4 bus stop for visiting the grottoes (a must). The hotel itself is clean and functional. Decent hot water, TV, wifi, kettle. Comfortable bed!

The hotel has some of the softest beds we have come across in China and is comparable to the western standard that most tourists are used to. There was a significant language barrier with the staff, however we found them to be very helpful. Ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner on different days and found this to be good value. The hotel was able to organize a driver for the grottoes and monastery which cost 400rmb which we felt was the best deal we could get in datong after bargaining with several other tour providers. In general a good hotel for short stays in datong and would recommend the Saint martins buffet restaurant that is just down the road from the hotel (go right when exiting hotel)

Generic but clean, simple, quiet and decent value/quality. Staff incredibly helpful and friendly despite language difficulty. Most comfortable beds on our 3 week trip through China. Similar to an Ibis.
