188yuan for twin ensuite, inc b'fast! Super clean and very new. Right next to the train station. Exiting the train station, look to your left and its the all dark glass building. No traditional character but from what I read what would be ava in Datong - highly rec. Caves were great, catch the bus, entry 75. Hanging mon, bus there, entry 130 - we didn't go in

We stayed here for a night and it was fine. The room was clean and the bed comfy but the hotel has no character and the breakfast was terrible. If you need a bed next to the train station I cant think of a better place, the hotel is literally right next door. Unlike other Chinese hotels we have been to there was no room for bargaining so the price 180 yuan we thought was a bit steep.

We stopped over in Datong just to see the caves and planned on staying two nights but when we saw the room we immediately went to buy tickets out of the city th following day. For 35 yuan you can get a bed in a 4 person dorm, luckily there was four of us. The bedding looked dirty and the walls were dirty. There were communal showers, but the door locks. There is only hot water from 6:30 - 8am and from 7:30-9pm. No one there speaks any English at all. We were constantly hounded by bus drivers and taxi drivers right outside the main door and even sometimes in the lobby. There was no A/C so we left the window open and could hear the taxi driver party in the parking lot downstairs allllll night. Also, there's not personal key for the door, just a card you show the lady in the hallway so she opens the door for you. It was cheap, but I've stayed in places of the same price that were WAY nicer than this! Look somewhere else.

Spent one night there while on a short trip to Datong to see the local sites. My train coming in to Datong was delayed 6+ hours so my first choice hotel had already filled up. They sent me here which is very convenient location (just east of the railway station square). Although it was cheap (180 yuan for a double with a free chinese breakfast), you get what you pay for. A bit dingy and musty. Sheets were sort of clean. There was a TV and an electric kettle in the room and they did provide the obligatory toothbrush, comb, shampoo, soap, towels. Unlike the prior reviewer my room was a good temperature (and I also stayed there on a cold night). They do not have any internet access at all (not in the room nor in their "business centre") but there are a couple of internet cafes south of the hotel a little ways. The breakfast consisted of one hard boiled egg, a choice of a couple soups, and some spicy vegetables. They did happily hold some luggage for me, at no charge, while I went to see the sites around the area and picked it up without trouble in time for my overnight train out of Datong. All in all tolerable if you just need a place to crash but far from ideal.
