I was struggling to find a hotel near the train station for my 6am departure and came across this. Normally, I stay across town in the more established hotel chains, but after seeing photos of this place on a well-known hotel booking website, I decided to give it a go... its only one night, right? First of all there numerous addresses for this place online, none of them are correct. I had to search on Baidu for a chinese address and then do a bit of detective work on baidu maps street view in order to find this place. For reference, it is located on the 12th floor of a hotel called 达宾汉白金豪庭酒店, which appears in none of the listings. Second of all, there seem to be about 5-6 different hotels operating from the same address. The 'lobby' is like a hotel room in itself in room 1217 of 维多利亚广场. Really if you don't speak half-decent Chinese, it's going to be hard to find. The room. Wow... just bizarre. I can see how the photos looked nice... this place probably once was. But the whole interior reminded me of some of the abandoned skyscrapers in jo'berg. Each floor is a balcony circling a huge cavity from the 30th floor to the basement... quite impressive if it didn't look so bombed out and empty. My room had a hob and oven, but no frying pans, cutlery or plates. The bathroom tap was a pipe coming out of the wall with a weird plastic spout tied on by a string. The whole place felt a bit dirty. Great balcony with sea views (except it was foggy), though also very noisy. This is a long way short of the type of place I would usually stay in terms of pricing, so I won't mark it down too badly. But the whole place is just bizarre and reminded me of post-apocalyptic movies and novels. Next time, I;ll just wake up earlier and taxi across town, or just get a later train!
