I arrived here on a work conference for just three nights and chose the hotel as the conference venue, the Shangri-la, was way too expensive for my budget. This turned into a great venue. it was a 10 min easy walk to the Shangri-la (via the mall if its raining), the hotel staff were fantastically helpful with maps, directions even with their limited English vocab and the breakfast was amazing. I love most food so the diversity of fresh Chinese cuisine was great (there was also more western foods like baked beans, toast, eggs etc if thats more your taste). My room was huge, very clean, with twin beds, TV, big bathroom, good shower, even a washing machine, heated toilet seat!, microwave and tea making facilities. I also had a great view of the city being on the 20th floor. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was the noisy construction outside, but like most parts of China, you are never that far from some type of construction.

I stayed in room 1219 of this hotel for 5 nights as a plenary paper presenter at an international conference. The room was very comfortable and the chamber staff were efficient and friendly. Two bottles of water were provided free each day. There were two types of tea provided free: green and black. The green tea was good. Unfortunately there were a few minor problems with the hotel and room. Hot water seemed to be non-existent, being lukewarm at best. I suspect it came on only twice per day. I tried it at various times during the day. I often rise at about 0600. I found that the later I showered, the warmer the water got, but never to the stage where it was too hot. I also found that the air-conditioning was not very effective. The view from the window was mainly of a big building which masked the sea. You need to be on the 14th or 15th floors at least to have a sea view. The sea is only about 500m away and once there you can walk miles in both directions. I had a lovely sea walk. It is claimed there are 40km to walk. Some staff at reception spoke English but generally few staff spoke or understood English. However, they had a great friendly manner. I never had breakfast in the hotel but had the buffet lunch and dinner. The service here was exceptional. As an example, on one occasion I decided to have a Tsingtao beer. I’d just opened the bottle and was about to start thinking where to get a glass when a waitress, with her face beaming with a wonderful smile, had seen what I was doing, anticipated my need and held out a glass! Brilliant. The buffets were superb also. I also ate in the a la carte restaurant. This has a menu in Chinese and English with some wonderful dishes such as bread with ice cream (this was part of a loaf of bread, with the top part of the centre cubed and covered with ice cream). A wonderful experience and it is not meant to be eaten as a dessert. Rice and noodles are not listed on the menu card – you need to ask for whichever you want – my trusted phrase book was helpful getting me my rice. You tick the dishes you want on the menu card. I ate here twice, once with my hosts and the second time by myself without any problems. The value was exceptional – 44 yuan for three dishes plus beer. Wifi was free and uses a public network. It seemed efficient though my emails to my wife always bounced as spam. One of the most touching moments came on my last day when I was sitting in my room while the chambermaid cleaned it. When she had finished, she came up to me and presented me with a pink heart with Chinese writing on – see photos. I got one of my Chinese friends to translate it and the card said “I am so sorry I do not understand what you told me. Please forgive me to take you so much troubles because I can't speak English. I have cleaned your room. Wish you have a good time in our hotel. Sincerely yours, Mr WU, the manager of this floor.” Fantastic. I replied and thanked them very much for a wonderful stay!

Stayed in Fuxin Hotel Qingdao-Claims to be a 4 Star, but worse than a village lodge!!! worst hotel with extremly unbelievably RUDE staff. We reached at 11pm and they were so rude at the reception...which was devoid of lights except for a dim backgound lite. No one to take our bags and no trolleys available for us to carry them up. The rude shock was when air condioning didnt work....we were rudely n threateningly informed NO AIRCONDITION (believe to save electticity they shut it a nite) ...when asked how can we sleep as room was stuffy and there were no fans .. the hosekeeping rudely yanked the windows open...its was scarey...we were on 21st Floor !!!!. the floors had a layer of mud and the mattress protector had menstrual blood....which they said only will be changed in the morning !!! UNBELIEVABLE...Never STay

Although it's big and spacious, it has a strong feel of a government hotel, so generally good for business but i wouldn't come here otherwise. Breakfast is a large, bland buffet but rooms were comfortable and mine included a washing machine which was very welcomed. Location is good, just two blocks from the sea across busy roads but easy walking distance to the marina, restaurants etc
