Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was probably the number 1 hotel in town. Many years ago. The hotel is fairly large and well kept, but definitely has a dated feel to it. The bed was good, but room amenities were poor: the light in the bathroom was very dim, the safe didn't work, there was neither fridge nor water cooker in the room, and only very few power outlets. The noise isolation of the room can equally only be described as poor. The "average" score is also applicable to the "fitness centre" and "wellness area", which are both in need of an overhaul. It was the first time in my life that I was given a towel with an identification number (at the fitness reception), not really sure why. The breakfast was good but not great (fresh fruits, but no fresh juices or cappuccino), and the walk from the hotel to the centre is along a street so full of exhaust fumes that it is almost unbearable.

We had a pretty lukewarm experience here at this hotel. When we checked into our room, we can see that it's quite old/dated, but perhaps that's what people want in Antigua. Here were some issues we had: Safe - locked when we entered - had to specifically call the staff over to open it with their master card Phone wasn’t working - Quick Buttons to the Front, Room service, etc all not working The hotel was extremely dark inside, very limited lighting. I suppose it's their way of trying to be environmentally friendly? Provided a ceramic jug that I guess filters water, though I would’ve preferred if they just gave two water bottles. Shower Water was lukewarm at times Or not stable (suddenly cold, suddenly hot) The room service food is actually quite good, but there were a few things that happened which lowered my rating: The tiramisu we ordered had gone bad, it was sour. The staff was nice enough to replace it with a different cake but we still paid extra for it (ie: the tiramisu was more expensive than the replacement cake we got) We really liked the lasagna we ordered, but the next day it was no longer available and menu prices suddenly increased so that was rather upsetting to have the menu price change in the middle of our stay. No outside food can be brought in, so you're stuck ordering what's offered at the hotel. The most upsetting thing that occurred was that the night before we had to leave, our next door neighbor was extremely loud from 1:30 to 3am. They were having a party! Do hotels in Guatemala not have quiet hours? Anyways, since the hotel staff never replaced our broken phone, we had to WALK to the front desk in the middle of the night to complain about this. Although they did send someone to tell the next door neighbor to quiet down, soon afterwards they got loud again and when we called front desk again to complain, we were pretty much ignored. This was extremely frustrating to not have quiet hours at night time to rest. Their breakfast selection was alright, though it's pretty much the same everyday so it can get pretty boring. The only thing going for this hotel is the name and I suppose the outdoors public area decor was quite nice. Staff members are nice in that they greet you, but can be pretty useless if you actually need them for something (ie: loud neighbors).

Avoid at all costs. The hotel charged us twice for our stay and have refused to refund us. They have fraudulently charged hundreds of pounds to my card and claim it was my fault for not alerting them that I had already paid. Despite initially admitting it they had charged me double in error, they have since turned very nasty and are now failing to reply to my correspondence.

Pretty good place to stay. The morning buffets are set up in such a way so that somebody serves you and that slows the process down considerably. (But saves some money for the restaurant...). The place is set up for corporations and families.... The whirlpools/saunas are separated by sexes. The whirlpool is very small.... The fitness center is very small but not many people use it... There is an unheated pool you can use to do laps... The other pool is heated and is comfortable to hang out or for families...

I used the hotel for its swimming pool and sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. I initially paid for use of the items above for 2 weeks. When I wanted to add a week, they doubled the price and claimed first that it’s now higher occupancy. Then they said later that it was misquoted the first time! On principle, I did not renew as those are deceptive and dishonest business practices. Also, the lap pool is way to cold to swim in. (75 degrees F, which is freezing to a normal human) The “heated “ pool is also very cold in the morning hours. It gets heated if there’s sunshine. But there’s more; The sauna is a joke. You can stay 20 minutes in it and still not break a sweat! It’s just warm. I reported it to the Managers but it seems they are trying to save on electricity so instead they keep it set low but claim to have a sauna! I even pointed out “normal and customary” temperatures based on a google search and showed them. A simple thermometer would end the debate but they don’t want you to see the temperature. Now, the steam room; Walk in and it’s off. You need to depress a button on the wall and keep your finger firmly pressed on it to make steam come out. Once you remove your finger, the steam stops. Really, who is going to stand there with their finger firmly on the button for 3 minutes. Thirty seconds or even a minute doesn’t do the trick. The tiled walls are COLD! The gym / workout area is a joke as well. I have more space in my own room than this “gym”. There’s a few machines and that’s it! No space to stretch or have yoga mats anywhere. No ventilation. To call that a “gym” is just more misleading advertising. Overall, the facilities are poorly lacking in upkeep. The door to the sauna has a handle that will pinch or even break a finger as it does not allow a hand to grip it and shut it properly. There is also a sharp metal contraption near the jacuzzi sticking out from the wall. What is it doing there? The water slide by the pool is rusty at the base and wobbly when on it. Anyone over 150 lbs is taking a chance. If you want a real 5 star hotel in Antigua, the Hotel Casa Santo Domingo is the place to go. That’s equivalent to a Hilton or JW Marriott. Howard S.

We pay monthly for our kids to swim in this hotel and the pools are advertised to be heated, but they are almost always freezing. They are also often not clean. They need to improve their pool maintenance.

If you're with young kids or just want a good night sleep, DO NOT stay here! They have an outdoor event center with an event on most nights and played music you can hear from your room (as if you were at the party). When asked to be moved, they refused. Also, they don't allow you to bring any outdoor food or drinks and check your bags when you come in from a day out- they let me in bc they were gifts.

This is a very cozy, beautiful and relaxing hotel. The professional and friendly services made it a super charming place that you must visit! I experienced great customer services here, especially from Andrea at the front desk. She patiently answered my questions, and guided me to enjoy all the services provided by the hotel. Her outstanding service is supported by all departments of this hotel. What a great team work to provide visitors a pleasant stay! This property has very nice pools, spa, garden, restaurant, etc. If you love plant and bird, you definitely want to walk around this place several times a day. I will certainly visit this lovely place again!

This resort is amazing. My 2-week experience was incredible. From check-in to check-out, everything I wanted or needed was accommodated. Before I even arrived, I was sent a form for ordering any groceries I might like for my stay. At check-in, staff were warm and friendly. My 2-bedroom accommodations were antiseptically clean but extremely comfortable and welcoming. There was a beautiful courtyard with a fountain and several benches just outside my door; a walkway canopied with vines and flowering plants led to the lobby and main facility. The restaurant was superb, and the breakfast buffet every morning was varied, fresh and delicious. The grounds were immaculately kept and everyone I met, from waiter to groundskeeper, was cheerful and friendly. The ATM on site was great; I never had to exchange money at the guarded banks in Antigua and the front desk made change with smaller bills when asked. It was an amazing stay at an amazing place, but the staff are really what made the day. A couple days in one of them recognized me at La Bodegano, called my name, and gave me a hug of greeting!! It was superb and I will go back if at all possible-- I miss Daniel, Isabel and Elena especially!

This is a review of two bedroom time share unit. Hotel grounds were beautiful but our unit (301) was not optimal. Living room did not have a window or any decoration giving it a claustrophobic feel. Bedroom windows were facing the parking lot. The unit was clean and there was daily cleaning which was satisfactory (they don't do dishes). People at the reception, restaurant and the concierge spoke good English and were friendly. We were there in September which is the peak of the rainy season. It rained every day in the afternoon. However, mornings were very pleasant. It is not a good time of the year to climb volcanoes. However, Antigua has a ton of good restaurants and cafes. One can walk from to hotel to the city but it is not a pleasant walk. Lots of cars, uneven sidewalks and wet. However, there is a free shuttle from the hotel to the city and back which works very well (10AM-6PM). We also used UBER which is cheap and worked well. In general this a good accommodation for 4 people. It would be too crowded for six people.
